Zone Labs blocking the Internet?

Thanks ... I'll try that.0

Since the connection only has 1 ip address, the router performs NAT (Network Address Translation) and in order to do that it needs to know where to send the traffic that's coming in. Normally, the traffic is a result of a request from one of the machines behind the firewall, so it can put the two together and send to the correct machine. If traffic comes in that hasn't been requested, it doesn't know where to send it, unless you have configured a default destination (ie nominated one machine to receive all unknown traffic) so it gets dropped. Normal home routers like this don't really block ports as such, they make sure that what comes in is expected, whatever port it's on. If there are unprotected machines behind the firewall, with nasties on, then a local software firewall would be a good thing to prevent the machines infecting each other.superscaper wrote:That's not my understanding, I thought the router firewall was only really useful for the network as a whole but each pc should definitely have to have it's own firewall for the more common open ports which a router wouldn't block. I saw them as serving two slightly different purposes and not interchangeable.0 -
I have added my router to my ZA trusted zones ... so far, so good.0

Go to Start / Run and type Command into the text box.
Type;
ipconfig
This will show your IP address. Your router will be shown on the last line.0 -

Thanks very much..... very useful to know.0 -
Zona Alarm blocked my router again this morning despite it being in my Trusted Zones .... must be another setting that I'm missing.
Funny how it does it for so long then objects.
I cure the problem by disabling ZA, re-typing my password in My Computer/Networks then rebooting..... ZA is back on.
Is it Windows resetting the password by any chance or does that happen when ZA blocks me?
I have a workaround but it's just annoying.0
