Accessing mobile phone with PIN of deceased?

As in my first post here, my dad died this morning. People are needing to be informed of this & we (the family) don't have contact details for some of these people.

These contact details will be on my dads phone (K800i with Vodafone SIM) except we don't know his PIN number, and whether the PIN number is on the phone or on the SIM.

Obviously i can't just call Vodafone & expect to be handed a PIN without questions asked.

Can this phone be accessed?

  • im sure u can with a puk code. someone will have a family authority to now access all private data. but may take a little for paperworks and proofs to be generated.

trying the SIM card in another phone will confirm whether the PIN is on the phone or the SIM. If it is on the phone, you'll get in from another phone. If it is on the SIM, you won't

Sorry to learn of your loss, when my brother passed away, I had his phone and informed any of the callers between the time of his passing and the funeral, fortunately his was not pin locked.
Don't forget you can put an announcment in the newspaper to inform people.
  • Cheers guys.

Vodafone got back in touch & told me to go to Vodafone store.

Went to the store & got a less than helpful young lass. I explained the situation - my dad had passed, the SIM (found out the PIN is on the SIM) had a PIN & i wanted access to inform people. She stood there & looked at me all stupid "errrr, whaaaaaaaat" she says.

Thankfully a bloke at her side had half a brain cell & took over the conversation & was very helpful. He just said next time i'm in, they'll enter the wrong PIN, block it, get me a PUK code & it'll be good to go.

Have you tried to guestimate the pin code? You would be amazed how many will use the DOB of a loved one .
  • Yeah i did that last night. He was born in '43 & i've seen him enter his PIN code before & i was convinced that 43 was 2 of his 4 numbers, but i guessed & guessed wrong. Then the phone locked.

My brother's safe number was the birthday of one of his son's.
