Eon have just fibbed to me
Was trying to switch to EON, got a letter asking to call them and they say have failed a credit check (not got great history but have a credit card which is up to date etc) and they can offer me a pre-payment meter that will cost EXACTLY the same to run as having a credit meter on whatever their current capped direct debit tariff is.
Told the guy he is a liar and i'm not interested and they can shove their electricity up their bum before hanging up (ok a little exageration but...)
Can't believe they tried that on

E.on's Fixed Price April 2013 is priced the same as their standard tariff so the unit rates will be the same but you will miss out on the 6% DD discount if you go prepay.0 -
So not EXACTLY the same price then :wall:0

Hi Rich44
I'm sorry you've failed our credit check. In these circumstances, we usually do offer potential customers the option of a prepayment meter.
I have to say, prepayment prices are not exactly the same but they're very similar. For instance, whilst there's no standing charge with gas prepayment there is with electricity. However, unit prices are virtually the same.
The main difference is, as Bark01 says, customers on prepay meters miss out on discounts for things like paying with a Direct Debit or managing their accounts online.
Sorry if our agent didn't explain this properly Rich44 but hope this helps a little. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

What can I say I have no idea what the problem is with this credit check I have a credit card that's paid every month and i've lived here for the last 5 years, your loss. Tip though when someone says they live in a VERY rural location and the nearest shop is 2 miles £2.50 return on the 2 hourly bus, perhaps not the best of ideas to try and push a prepayment meter.
We don't have access to gas (see previous very rural statement)
See that's my point though there's a standing charge when there isn't with DD so they're not exactly the same far from it.
so if i'm spending £100 a month on electricity on a dd scheme how much does that cost on prepayment. If it's soooo favourable why is it so many people are still banging on about it being incredibly expensive?
sorry I have been royally shafted by prepayment meters in the past and i'd NEVER go back.
Have to say in my experience all energy companies are equally terrible having been really screwed over by Npower in the recent past with their horrendous billing cockups (meter changed twice billing a mess took 12 months and massive complaint to get sorted out), before that Scottish Power urgh! I'm yet to find a utility supplier with decent customer service who can get the job done without causing a huge problem, was hoping EON might be the company that managed to get it right but guess not.
Oooh another question, if I had the £200 deposit that you would have for 12 months would I get the interest after the 12 months when I got it back?
Ok so I do a quote online and I get:
25.5255 per kwh up to 900 then
13.2195 per kwh after
Can't find any info on prepay unit price on your website at all just says to phone you. Funny how nearly all the suppliers hide their prepay unit costs on their websites. Apologies if i'm looking in the wrong place but I was looking at this page
http://www.eonenergy.com/At-Home/Products/Products-Electricity-And-Gas/Electricity-Only/E.ON-EnergyPlan-with-Prepayment-elec.htm?WT.mc_id=E.ON_EnergyPlan_with_Prepayment&WT.svl=8
What are the prepay fees?
I think after all this i'm better off sticking with the devil I know Npower might be awful but at least I expect that now :mad:0 -

Ok, you say you've exaggerated there a little, but even so, if you said anything like that then I'm pretty sure they'll be quite happy not to have you as a customer! Why not just a polite 'no thank you' and move on? Why the need for the rudeness? And in the next breath you complain about 'poor customer service'? Are you really surprised?0 -
Oh dear. You sound very hard done by. No wonder you`re so annoyed as the World definitely owes you a favour.
Not only do you make a fool of yourself in the way you express yourself to the Eon representative, you then go onto an internet message board to give it a much wider audience.
An internet forum is all about opinions and my opinion is that you are a bit of a numpty from what I`ve heard so far.:money:0 -

Because I said a polite no thank you he then launched into his sales patter about how wonderful prepayment meters are and how they're all misunderstood and they cost EXACTLY the same to run which is blatant BS so when some sales person lies to YOU on the phone you're happy and polite. The point was had I taken him at his word I would now be worse off.
I was in fact totally polite but form as I said in an earlier post0 -

I have as much confidence in your `politeness` as I do your selective memory.:money:0
