Trouble connecting to Wanadoo broadband

Options
Hi,

Hopefully somebody on here will be able to help as wanadoo seem to be completely useless.

I signed up to the £17.99/month broadband package just over a month ago with Wanadoo but I am having terrible trouble connecting to the internet.

For the first day or two it was fine but then it kept coming up with the error message "no dial tone" everytime I tried to connect. As this computer is kept upstairs I bought an RJ11 cable to run it through the phone socket downstairs and it still doesn't work. Theres nothing wrong with the BT line either as the telephone is working ok.

Wanadoo customer services have been really unhelpful and I also can't cancel the broadband because I'm in a 12month contract.

Does anyone know anything else I can try?

You need to run through a process of elimination to see if you can find the part that is causing the problem.

Do you have Sky TV ? If your digibox is plugged into the phone socket, try removing it temporarily and see if the situation improves.

If you know someone else with broadband, I would take your microfilter and ADSL cable over to their house and ask them to test it for you by replacing their cable and microfilter temporarily with yours and seeing if it works.

If you know someone who also has Wanadoo broadband or uses the same ADSL modem then ask them to try your modem on their PC and see if it works.

If all this works fine then the problem is likely to be with your telephone line and you will need to get Wanadoo and BT involved.

I hope you get it sorted.

    Thanks

    Gavin
  • Head over to https://www.adslguide.org and enter their chatrooms - try the Wanadoo one first. You'll need to give a bit more info - like the system you're using - Windows XP, etc ? Has the line being ok for BB before - are there microfilters on each extension ? Is the line 'synching' - (showing live) on the modem/ router you have.
Someone will help you out there.

Thanks for the advice both of you.

My boss uses the BT broadband so she'll check my modem for me and I'll check that website out.

    Thanks again.
  • your machine should not be looking for a dial tone, have you tried checking the 'never dial a connection' button. Open Windows explorer, select tools, then options..click the connections tab...just a thought
