deerhound/lurcher pup

Hi all,
Picked up my new girl, 8wks old, yesterday. Very good all night, not a peep, and no puddles!
Has anyone else got one of these? and do you have any tips on the best food? as the breeder feeds a VERY expensive dried food  I was given a small bag, but would prefer to get her onto something a little less costly :D
I am experienced with lurchers and sighthounds, but its years since i had a pup,so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Caz

I do think you generally get what you pay for with dog food, if its costly try going online and buying in bulk perhaps, what food is it?

If you've got a pup who sleeps quietly and is dry all night at 8 weeks I wouldn't rock the boat!!!

volume of expensive food versus volume of cheap food required may mean the expensive isn't as bad as you think...
  • Thanks for the replies,Visi and Person, yes I will be keeping her on this food , as you say..
She sleeps well, and the volume of cheaper food would negate any saving.

    Congratulations! :D

What food is she on? Someone might be able to suggest where best to get it from.

  • Just echoing what others have said, I feed Arden Grange, someone suggested to me chudleys and I couldn't believe how cheap it was, but the feeding guidelines said that I would have to give her double the amount of food as the quality wasn't as good. If you put more in as well you tend to get more out of the other end if you know what I mean ;)

I second Gunsandbanjos! (I'm too new to post links or I would have quoted!) We have a Lurcher who is supposedly a Saluki cross but we aren't exactly sure as he was a rescue dog. The only thing I will say is that we feed ours a low protein diet (under 21%) as with too much he can get hyper and ends up all out of sorts, he is generally a sensitive dog and is quite scared most things including other dogs but he is great with people. Looking forward to photos ;)
