What about adding some good songs/games?
Do you know 40 years on an iceberg?
The girls have to remember the actions and the words as each run through drops a line from the beginning and hums it instead, until all the song is hummed with actions.
A favourite of our girls! Although, we don't sing it like that, we count down the years each time and have actions... this highlights the variety from person to person and therefore from unit to unit!:jBaby Boy born December 2012

My favourite was always Land of The Silver birch sung as a round as the campfire died down......Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I loved Brownies & Guides, they gave me so many skills, so much confidence, I am very grateful. But my kids went to Woodcraft Folk, partly because I wanted a mixed sex group (this was before Scouts admitted girls) but mainly because of the "promise". http://www.woodcraft.org.uk/0

I'm a Rainbow Guider and have been for 14 years. I love it and Guiding has offered me so many experiences (both as a child and an adult) I may not have had otherwise.
I'm happy to try and help out with any questions people may have.
Is it possible to add to the first post that girls can start Rainbows at 4 in Northern Ireland? Thanks"There's only one way of life and that's your own" - Levellers

In the interests of Money Saving, could I encourage anyone who can to fill in a Gift Aid declaration? For Guides it's on the back of the "Starting Guides" forms and I assume it's the same for Rainbows & Brownies. Then the unit is allowed to treat your subs as "donations" and claim back an extra (roughly) 20% from the government. Our unit gets £400 per year from this.0 -
Glad to see this little thread pop up! I've just enquired into going back as a volunteer, having been in the guides from being 5-16. I'm 19 now, and dropped out because I was more interested in boys and partying (and had a very big row with my unit leader due to me saying I would take some time out in the run up to my GCSE's), but now living in a new area I feel it is time to give something back! Will I need to buy an adult uniform or will I be able to wear my own clothes for a few weeks? (student loans don't spread to far!). I don't know what unit I will be placed with, still waiting for the area leader to get back to me!0

Hiya,
No need to buy an adult uniform straight away! Hold fire on it as you find most units will supply uniform or give you a 50% refund. If not, you can source secondhand uniform online.:jBaby Boy born December 2012

In my area, people who are working towards the leadership qualification have a new polo uniform top provided by county. Before this, some units provided the polo shirts and others didn't, so I think it depends on the area.0
