I find the badges hard to sew on through the thick badge material and the sash, I dont think she would be able to.0 -
I've been a Brownie and Guide Guider, and always took care to ensure the 'my God' bit was explored appropriately for the child before they took their promise. If the child's family have not chosen any specific religion to follow, then the discussion is about spirituality and morality. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Trick is don't sew THROUGH the badge, catch your thread through the sewn border part if you get what I mean. Otherwise it's like trying to shove a needle through an old boot and you end up with a pile of busted needles and fingertips resembling the colander from the kitchen.
Used to sew all my own badges on cos my mother's mending pile was a mountain and I always wanted to wear them before she got round to them! Granted I learnt to sew at a ridiculously early age and people look at you like you've got four heads if you admit to being able to sew, let alone work a sewing machine, these days!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

This is a brilliant tip! The other thing i would add to it would be to try not sew completely through the sash. It is made up from 2 parts so if your sewing skills are upto sewing just through one layer it will be easier... obviously you cannot do this with running stitch!:jBaby Boy born December 20120 -
Thanks for clarifying my point/question db. I was just interested and not trying to knock what you do at all. I know how much pleasure these organisations give to kids and of course all the benefits the children can gain from it. Good for you all for volunteering for this (stuck in a hall with 30 kids, my idea of a nightmare).Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Not a problem. As I said, I don't really do the whole God and Queen thing myself, but i do strongly believe in helping others and your community so i put most emphasis on that!:jBaby Boy born December 20120 -
Lovely thread, my daughter started Rainbows last night (she turned 5 2 weeks ago) and though she cried all the way through the hour she said she had a great time and wants to go back next week!0

There used to be a catholic version of the promise that I think missed out the queen? Will need to google that!
Is there? I was raised RC but made the normal Brownie promise.
It was a very long time ago but I remember the main reason for the promise was to always do your best and help others. It does say to love "my" God not "love God" so you can apply your own individual God, even if that God is chocolateI promise that I will do my best, to love my god,To serve my queen and country, to help other peopleAnd to keep the brownie guide lawA Brownie Guide thnks of othersBefore herself and does a good turn every day.I was a Brownie in early 70s and we certainly weren't taught to be little housewives unless housewives need to know how to tie knots or complete an assault course!! Oh and the then Radio 1 DJ Fluff Freeman did a Brownie/Guide disco in my local church hall too which was broadcast live on Radio 1:D~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

"Thunder, thunder

We are the Brownie Guide's
Association"
is imprinted on my brain forever by three little Brownies singing in the back seat of the car as I gave them a lift home. Week after week after week!.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
