Best value Pay as you Go SIM

Hi, I hope someone can help me out. We are travelling to London in a few weeks, will be going to different places and need to be able to contact each other by mobile. We are looking for the best deal Sim card which we only want to use once. Which would you recommend and where do we get it from?

How do you define "the best"?
I think this depends on what (minutes/texts/mobile internet) your are going to use and how much.

    Check giggfaff and icardmobile.
  • I use ASDA mobile. Free sim if you buy £5 top up. 10p min calls, 6p texts. Uses Vodaphone network so good coverage.
Currently can get 100 texts and 100 mins for £5 but have to be used in 30 days.

    Cheers,
    Ian.
  • The best and cheapest availble SIM card is from Giffgaff which operate on the O2 network.
  • Thanks for the replies. Asda seems a good deal. To answer your question grumbler, the usage is very small (to make one or two calls for where to meet up and we don't intend to use it again as we only use mobiles for emergencies). As for whether we want to text or phone, I'm open to suggestions, but if one method is cheaper, then we'd go for that option.
  • Giffgaff is much cheaper than Adsa

I think it is the cheapest only for the mobile internet users or for a big number of calls to 080 and 0500 numbers.

Both giffgaff and icard offer free calls to the same network, but I think the min topup is smaller at giffgaff and you can get a sim card with a free £5 credit. I am not sure about ordering the sim and about free £5 if you are not in UK.

Calls between giffgaff phones might be free, but are subject to making sure you top up £10 on each one and top ups can only be made in £10 units. After the free £5 only £10 top ups are possible on giffgaff, non-free UK calls are 10p/min and 6p/text.

icardmobile allow £5 top ups, free calls to other icardmobile numbers are not subject to topping up £10 every so often (although only last ten minutes, but you can make as many under 10 minute calls as you like).

So the cheapest way to get some temporary SIMs which you can use to call each other is going to be icardmobile. Top up each with £5 and you're sorted. With giffgaff, you'll need to top up £10. As far as I am aware, the free giffgaff to giffgaff calls will not be activated until a £10 top up is added. No doubt this will be corrected within seconds if I'm wrong but that seems to be what I can muster from their website.

Giffgaff is a competitive tariff, but is not the best thing since sliced bread and will not solve world poverty as some on here would have you believe. They have a recommend-a-friend style loyalty thing going, which means they are often plugged here there and everywhere, with someone always very quickly saying "I can send you a free SIM".

Another option. http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/shop/sim_cards/pay_as_you_go_essentials_sim_card.html 2 payg sims with £5 credit each .

Half price calls/texts between the sims. http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/pay_as_you_go_essential.html will give you 125 minutes each. Or 250 texts each.
