take it to your local back street tyre shop to plug it. A garage can't find a thousand things wrong if they're taking a wheel off.
but national tyres will be fine for your voucher,0 -
National Tyres would be OK for a repair. As would - it pains me to say this - Kwik Fit. Just make sure you get your tyre repaired and don't listen to them when they tell you that your entire exhaust needs replacing and your brakes are illegal :-) If you have a local independant garage this may be less intimidating than one of the big chains.
Just as a caveat - not all punctures can be repaired, it depends where abouts on the tyre the puncture is. Since you say the breakdown man told you it could be repaired the I would suspect it can, but a proper tyre place would be able to tell you for sure.
Finally, just remember it's not really worth repairing a tyre that's about at the end of it's life ( tread-wise ) anyway, but if there's a fair amount of tread left and the tyre is otherwise OK then go for it.0 -
I agree with all above posts, if you just take the wheel to one of these places and ask them to fix the puncture only, it shouldn't be a problem.
I have also found that National are also one of the cheapest places for new tyres.
Do you know the size of your tyre, it will be on the side of the tyre, something like 215 45 17?0 -
Last time I had a repair done at a back street garage it cost me less than £10, just so you know

ATS was cheapest for me last time, just under a tenner as well.0

thanks everyone for your replies not sure about the size think its 185 65? but not definite its a vw polo
he was quite sure i shouldnt be paying out for a new tyre i just get so overwhlemed when i go to garages i end up just doing wotever they suggest which i know is stupid but like i say i feel intimadated-will prob phone up about the free repair voucher and book it there
it does say they charge extra though for balancing is that necessary? What goes around-comes around0 -
They won't repair if it's on or near the side or if it's been run much when deflated.0

Just try get the puncture repaired first, any tyre place should be able to do this for you, all in less than £10.
In the worst case scenario, if you need a new tyre, National have them for:
If the tyre is a 185 65 15 national sell a brand new tyre for £50, 185 65 14 £48...
to get a new tyre fitted, balanced, everything.0 -
I've got to admit that I use the local Kwik Fit for punctures and they have been fine and very good if you are female.
A couple of years ago my wife got a puncture so I put her spare wheel on and I took the punctured wheel to Kwik Fit all done for (IIRC) £7.95. Just 2 weeks later she got another puncture (different wheel) so I put the spare on, put the punctured wheel in the bag provided and loaded it into the passenger seat (it won't fit into the boot and the spare is a skinny space saver), she dropped it at Kwik Fit and when she collected it after work they put it on for her and didn't charge her anything for the puncture repair.0
