Bought my Dyson in 2003 so mine must have been made in the far east, as I believe they moved over there in 2002.

I have had two hoses and the second one split a while ago I covered it with tape :embarasse but I must get a new one.
The sole plate is loose now

I liked the Dyson because of the bagless feature, it didn't smell like my bagged vacuum cleaner.

I'm not sure now if I would have another one after reading this thread but I hate the idea of having to buy bags, they are quite expensive.

Dysons have always had a problem with the hoses splitting. Recently however we find ours last a fraction of the time that they used to. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

We have pets so we use our vacuum cleaner every day. Our hoses used to last approximately 2 years before splitting. However recently they have been lasting just 1-3 months. The problem is consistent - Dyson send us a replacement only to have the same thing happen again with the replacement, and again, and again, and again...

    It's gone again today.

Ours is a DC-04. Before you say "It's failing because it's old", the hoses aren't old - they are the newest part of the machine. And Dyson gave it a full service recently. We treat the hose with kid gloves.

Before you say "You are treating it badly" (and ignoring the fact that we don't), if that were true then the hoses would always have failed after such a short period. After years, the hoses suddenly last approximately one-tenth as long.

I suspect that the manufacturer that makes the hose has changed the plastic used or that there has been some other change.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Your hoses may last longer than ours as we have pets and therefore use our Dyson every day - but you will still have noticed that your Dyson hoses break far faster than they used to.

    Thanks.

It's happened to mine countless times too! It never used to be this bad! I'm ordering a new one every 2/3 months too, massive design fault! And must be costing them a fortune! Such a shame as I always regarded Dyson as a superior vacuum cleaner... Not sure I'll be replacing it? might need some convincing.
  • I had an original one DC01 which was really great but didn't do hard floors then my DD1 wanted one for Christmas so I bought her the DC04, but she got an offer on one in her area so bought it and I said I'd keep the one I bought her. I (unfortunately) sold my DC01 and it was the worst thing I did!

The hose on the DC04 has gone a few times, the small head for stairs has been replaced numerous times due to the moveable bend being very weak so kept breaking, and now the yellow inner bit in the drum falls out every time you empty it! I asked my daughter how hers was doing only to find that she's replaced hers - twice!

I've now got myself a new Hetty, it's a cylinder with bags, but so far it's been great. I read loads of reviews, it was really liked so got 4+ stars. Hope it keeps going longer than the Dysons for me.

So yes, I do think the newer models are not as robust as the older ones. The fact that he moved abroad to make it cheaper didn't make his prices come down, they are still very dear, which is one of the reasons I've moved away from them. The Henry/Hetty was only £100.

Daft buying your spares direct from Dyson, much cheaper here:
    http://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC04-spares.html
For example, a filter kit (both filters) is £9.
I have no connection to man vacs, but have used them many times with excellent service.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Hi macman, makes a change talking to you about my pc.
    Hose is £1 cheaper , but hepa filter is £12 cheaper, and other parts are a lot cheaper.Didn,t know they sold a switch tool, made my own, beggar to remove, even when you fathom out how;;
Hose is a problem with dyson. Might replace the parts from here and keep it until it,s unusable, motors fine, suction, great, not a ball, bad reports of centre of gravity ????Falling over.

The switch tool is just a bent screwdriver, but it's bent at exactly the right angle to release the cover.
The hose is a genuine Dyson part, hence only £1 less. Many other parts are aftermarket, though still often as good as or better than Dyson's.

Yes, I bent my own screwdriver, watchmakers set, 37 degrees; does the job.Actually, switch on it showed ok, but for some reason, wouldn,t work with it in situ, so I just removed it and bypassed it, just switch on/off at plug till get a new one.. beer:
