15 kg luggage

I'm flying with Thomas Cook soon and can take 15kg luggage, can anyone tell me if that is an average sized holiday case with just clothes and toiletries? Don't want to get to the airport and get charged!

Yes that should be fine. Have you not got bathroom scales you could use to check?

We have hard-sided cases and when full they weigh around 20kg. We have actually had them weighing more than 20kgs when we have had particularly heavy things like books and shoes in them. Best to weigh it to at least be approximate.

Yes it is, but it all depends on how much you pack into that case. As soon as you add liquids and heavy items (my laptop charger being a prime offender) it can weigh a lot more, so I struggle with just 15st for a week's packing. Don't forget that anything you buy out there will be additional weight on the way back.

I think 15kg is a miserable allowance btw. A friend flies business class regularly and is allowed to take 2 x 23kg items.

Depends how heavy your case is when its empty they vary so much, oh and its approx 10 euros per kilo overweight.

Thanks, my bathroom scales are very unpredictable, tried to use them last year when we went away, think I broke them doing this!
Hopefully going to be warm, so won't need heavy clothing, will wear coats and jeans. I presume we're also allowed one item of hand luggage, so I'll put a book in there!

Don't guess! If you don't want to buy luggage scales at a couple of quid in some places, use the bathroom scales. However don't put the case on the scales. Weigh yourself holding the case then weigh yourself without it and subtract that from the first weight.

my bathroom scales are no good... will look for a dedicated luggage scale.

We got a luggage scale from Ebay for less than a fiver and it's very accurate.
It's this one...

Good.

Put the scales in your hand luggage and take them with you to weigh your case on the way home.

You might have chucked some stuff away (toiletries etc) but if you've bought some souvenirs, you may be over.
Best to be sure.
