They seem to be carefully suggesting that they are an alternative to storage heating, which if you don't mind your bills increasing hugely then I guess they are. To say they will say money over a storage heater is completely wrong though.0 -

Okay, they use electricity on Economy 7...which is good. If you work through the day, they'll be barely warm by the time you get home....which is rubbish.
Think of a better option. Then tell me what you've come up with!
If you are talking about 'proper' storage heaters(i.e. heaters designed to store heat from cheap rate off-peak electricity) then they are without doubt the cheapest form of electrical heating*.
However they have got to be correctly specified(correct size) and correctly operated.
* heat pumps can be cheaper to operate, but they are usually very expensive and not suitable for many properties.0 -
I have used the Fischer heaters for the past year. When they refer to 40% reduction in energy input it is because the heat distributed from the heater into the room is more efficient. To prove that point, their thermostatic control is wall mounted in the room away from the radiator and it controls the room temperature very well. Unlike my old radiator which had a control on the heater, the Fischer heater is proving a better source of heat in my living room, keeping me warm especially in the evenings, at no extra cost. It also makes use of Economy 7 at night thereby making it cheaper to run. As I'm using less units now, even though some of them are at a higher rate in the day, it still is cheaper to run than my old storage heaters. As far as heating the room more efficently, I can say they work out more economical and better comfort than my old night storage heaters. I am very satisfied with them. So I am totally convinced that the distribution of the heat from the heater into the room is more important than simply the amount of heat you generate at the radiator. It makes complete sense0

I actually hope that isn't true.0 -
I've just been quoted £4k for 2 Fischer heaters, a 2.4kW and a 1.3kW.
This would include the removal of 5 old storage heaters.
Does this seem totally excessive?

@LBennet
Yes it is expensive. The devices in this post are just as good as the Fischer ones.I had this in an Email, and can 100% guarantee that I have no connection with this well known firm other than I bought a carpet cleaner for my son.

These are oil filled radiators with thermostat, timer and come with a 2 year warranty.
The 1.5kW model costs £49.99, the 2.0kW model costs £69.99 and the 2.5kW model costs £99.99.
The point of posting this is to state unequivocally that any of these models give out EXACTLY the same amount of heat, for the same running cost, as any of the heaters mentioned in this thread.
In fact although the models in the link below can hardly be described as 'future heat' they also will give EXACTLY the same amount of heat, for the same running cost, as any other electric heater.

If the salesman claims they can, I would be very doubtful of any other claims he has made about these heaters.0 -

Yes ........ about three thousand five hundred pounds too much. A little time spent reading this thread would be worth it, you will learn a lot. When you've read some of this thread come back and ask questions. Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
