work programme and pre-booked holiday

I have a holiday booked in november and the job centre has just sprung it on me that i am now on the work programme, i have my introduction tomorrow, will my adviser let me take the holiday?

I'm on ESA with a condition that is worsened by stress it could be said that they will cause a worsening in my condition if they refuse. What are my options?

I also have treatment dates with my osteopath for ongoing specialist treatment, will they work around them?

Travelling away on holiday can be very stressful, particularly if you are so disabled by your chronic fatigue syndrome that you can't work. I note that you were too sick to attend your ATOS medical earlier this year.

Firstly there is no way I have the stamina or mental acuity to journey 1hour 16 mins, including a bus change, a train and 25 mins of walking punctuated throughout... a taxi will exhaust me especially both ways but it has a lesser chance of throwing me into relapse which is what public transport will definately do.

Wouldn't want you to overstrain yourself by travelling abroad when you can barely manage a local journey. This might be a blessing in disguise. :A

Here we go again draging up old posts to try and make the OP look like a idiot. Just answer his question if you don't want to then just jog on by.

The OP is on ESA not JSA. Please tell me you don't really advise on benefits?

How can you afford a holiday with no job?
I don't post personal details on the internet unless their relevant to helping people post answers to my original post. Sorry.
is it advisable to take a holiday if you are so sick?
I'm not 'so sick' i'm to sick to get a job. That is rubber stamped by my own GP, my osteopath, every specialist at my CFS clinic AND the DWP decision maker despite some keyboard heroes being ecotistical enough to believe their ignorant opinions based on a few posts on a forum are superior to all the professionals, i would have to disagree. Sorry.

Again its the intricacies of chronic conditions that escape you. Every single one of the professionals who's care i'm in would not hesitate to say a holiday will be beneficial possibly even aiding a recovery from a slump.

cancel the holiday and attend the work program it will be more use than a holiday, hopefully it will help you find a job, and why should they work around you?
No thank you. I'm curious do you actually have an answer to my original query or just felt like ignoring the rules in this part of the forum to gift me with your personal opinion?

Incidentally my JC+ adviser was happy to work around my disability, i also got information that a holiday on ESA would be no problem, so i went a head and its now paid for. I'm not going to cancel it because the Government suddenly decides people with ESA should be on the work programme ASAP.

We'll see what they say tomorrow but a holiday booked is a holiday booked and i won't be letting people down by cancelling it. Other family members have been waiting for this for years and won't have the chance again for a long while.
  • Hi, I am on ESA and on the work programme at the moment.

I only have to see my WP advisor once a month so I wouldn't think that a holiday would make too much difference and wouldn't worry too much. The work programme is different for claimants on ESA than on JSA so just go and see how your provider works and take it from there.

Hope this helps a little and good luck today.
Sometimes it seems that just when I think I have reached rock bottom, someone hands me a shovel.
  • isnt the work program for people that has been stamped (by atos /dwp fit for work within 6 months and the program starts 3 months before expected to be fit for jsa ?
anyone any info on this ?
edit forgot to say enjoy the holiday im sure the date can be changed for the apointment
  • Please bear in mind that a holiday can be beneficial to those who are sick and that the OP made no mention of going abroad, nor who had paid for the holiday.

To the OP, I personally would mention the holidays to the JC. I'm pretty sure you are allowed a holiday in the UK.

The ESA referrals to the work programme are titled 3/6 months WRAG.
If you are deemed fit under the 3 month category you will referred after your work capability assessment result.
If you are deemed fit under the 6 month category you will be referred 3 months after your work capability result.

You cannot be mandated to apply for a job or undertake medical procedures, however you are expected to take part in work focused interviews.

    Hope that helps.

Whilst I do agree, the OP claims to be unable to make a journey of little over an hour. If he was staying local for his holiday, then he would be able to attend his appt.

Quick check, the holiday is overseas ...
