Hi all,
Read this forums all the time and think ye are all amazing.
Just after a bit of advice and your thoughts.
I am going on maternity in November, where i will be getting statutory maternity, taking a cut of 1000 ish per month.
My Nanny has given me a 100 euro voucher for Dunnes, Im in Ireland. they sell groceries, clothes, household stuff and all that.
I was wondering what I should use it for. Like nappies, baby stuff, stock piling food, cleaning stuff.... things that by having would help my tight budget.... if you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance, sorry if this doesnt make much sense!

id not buy any baby clothes ( as hard as it is to resist) as my baby is 8 months and weve hardly had to buy anything due to the huge amount of baby gifts we got. Maybe stock up on some staples like pasta and rice, things that you always eat and make some meals to freeze and make the first few weeks a little eaier on yourself. Or could you maybe hold onto the voucher til nearer the time you might need it ?0

Yes I was thinking of holding on to it.... just got this crazy urge to have everything organised....0

If you're going to use disposable nappies, I'd stock up on those. They're soooo expensive and my new grandaughter seems to get through mounds of them (no pun intended)!Normal people worry me.0

dunnes is crazy expensive for groceries i only every buy stuff in there on offer, they do sleepsuits quite cheap if you needed stuff for your hospital bag and lovely soft blankets, they also sell moses basket and cot bed sheets which people prob won't buy you many of, i hightly recommend dunnes clothes (altho i only have boys so can't comment on girls) and remeber your vouchers will be valid for ages so no need to use them all now
i wouldn't buy nappies in dunnes i would buy own brand supermarket ones there alot cheaper and work just aswell, sainburys include these in there 1/3 off so it's worth stocking up when it's on
also dunnes do cheap jammies and pants which will be fab for your hospital bag just buy a few sizes too big thats what i didDEC GC £463.67/£450

Hi sandy,
If it's something Old Style that you want to buy, these threads should help you to decide what is worth spending the money on:
Must have kitchen gadgets
Unused kitchen gadgets
If you would prefer to get something for the baby then you would get more advice on the MoneySaving in Marriages, Relationships & Families board.
Let me know if you would prefer me to move your thread over there.
