Carphoneware house - Price match- False advertising/watch out their customer services

Got an email confirming that they match any deal in the UK (after reading the exact same text on their website).

Phoned them up, spoke to a rude salesman and asked if they would match the deal. At 1st he tried to sell me another deal which i wasnt interested. Later on, he said he wouldnt match my deal which i found(apparently they only match accessories is his answer).

I then wanted to speak with the supervisor about the price match policy but he refused to give it to him. I then asked for his full name which he refused too. He then started to be threatening down the phone before asking for my address. I was a bit worried so i put the phone down.

I'll be writing to complaints about that idiot but more importantly, SURELY THE COMPANY SHOULD PRICE MATCH A CONTRACT I FOUND CHEAPER?

What do you suggest?

i called them today and they said that they don't price match, but when i quoted the guy of the terms from the website, he said you would need to go instore.

to be honest, CPW are awful when it comes to customer services.

  • Report them to the local Trading Standards and The Advertising Standards Authority. CPW have the Price Match Policy displayed instore as well as online so it's easier to get the advert to use in your complaint to these organisations. :)
  • the first paragraph of the price match says that,

"If within 7 days of purchase you find the same handset available at both The Carphone Warehouse and at the place where you could purchase it at a lower price"

you have to purchase the handset first then come back with proof that you could have bought the exact same phone, network, they won`t discount it at the time of purchase, it is set out quite clearly

E2Save (which I believe are owned by CPW) have also refused to price match for me.

I know they say that price matching is at their discretion, but I think it's misleading to advertise a "Price Match Guarantee" if they are not going to honour it.

(In my case, I had purchased the deal from them before contacting them about the price matching)

The price match gaurantee only applies to the cost of the handset as far as im aware....

Not the deal on redemption e.t.c

the stock has to be like for like as well

If the price match advert confused you it will have confused lots of others so it is worth complaining to the ASA as the advert is misleading.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • This is an email quote from CPWH about their price matching:
We are happy to price match any deal or offer that is available in the mobile phone market.
