Might just be me but I thought a lot of tinned salmon was farmed: ie that it would be cobblers about "bad fishing year" as this is exactly what farming fish is for....
Mind you I dont buy it myself, if its farmed it should be on the tin...
Hmm you had me thinking for a minute so I went and checked, the tins say wild pacific pink salmon. If i find some farmed stuff that's cheaper i will give that a go, it's expensive dog food at the mo!Smokefree since 27-9-20070 -
Why do we hear official statistics saying food has increased by 5% or so a month when it's more like 50% in some cases?" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Food shopping is costing me a small fortune. A family of 5 these days costs alot to feed each week!
I shop at Asda, but I had noticed the price increases last week.0 -
I too have noticed the large increase on some of the things I buy at asda. But what annoys me the most is the overcharging. Cathedral city has been on offer for quite a few weeks (I eat cheese every day with an apple for my lunch so use quite a bit of it). The first week it was reduced I was overcharged £10 + with the excuse that they had two different displays on the go. Then for the next couple of times no problem then 2 weeks ago I was once again overcharged for the cheese by £10+ on a bill of what should have totalled £24 !!!!! That's over a 40% overcharge. Guess what the excuse was - yes the same one there were two displays. So what? More like just plain incompetence or cynical pricing I wonder which. This is not the first time I've had this problem in Asda and no doubt it won't be the last but I do wonder how many people with a large shopping list don't notice0

I find that when i do go to asda not too often these days i'm always overcharged by a few pence, only talking 10 or 20p here or there. I have 3 little ones with me and haven't the time to go to cs to moan about being overcharged 10p but i wonder how much extra they make a day by doing that to each person going through the tills?
Going to tesco though i find i usually come out winning with a nice bogof glitch etc so would rather go there these days even though a's in closer.0 -
.... I remember one woman saying smartprice sultanas had increased from 49p to 99p - as she had a teashop and did all her own baking, she couldn't justify buying her stuff from Asda as she would have to pass the increase onto her customers and she wasn't willing to do that.
When that happens just remind the customer that Asda is a retailer not a wholesaler & although it's a bit of a grey area as far as the legailty of doing so goes they shouldn't really be purchasing ingredients from a supermarket for products they will be selling on for a profit instead they should be buying them from wholesalers even if it does work out more expensive on certain items.
In my area there are an awful lot of people permanently banned from shopping in Lidl, Morrissons & Tesco for doing exactly that.0 -

We have a lot of Chinese restaurants in our town and it is common to see in Mr A someone with a full trolley containing nothing but coke (on special offer) smart price peanut butter I presume for satay and once about 200 cucumbers!!!:rotfl:0 -
I used to work in a pub and the manager bought all the ingredients for meals from our local asda - he said it was more convienent than going to a wholesaler - didn't realise they werent allowed to do so.0
