Asda price increases - unbelievable!

Sorry, I need to have a rant over this, but wondered whether anyone else had noticed this. Popped into Asda this afternoon for a few odds and ends. I noticed that the meals that they have which used to be £2 for £5, the sort of gammon steak in sauce or chicken in sauce types, had jumped up to 2 for £5.50.
hmmmmmmm I thought, I'll give those a miss - let's try some soup instead. Baxters soup which I only buy when it's on offer - used to be 3 for £2 - jumped up to 3 for £2.50.
I'm a single person so don't want to buy 3 packs of rolls for £1.50 or jumbo packs of toilet rolls. I want to eat healthily, but the price of the apples, melons, etc was ridiculous - I know it's getting out of season, but 50p for an apple?
All the offers seemed to be on cakes/biscuits/crisps, and don't even get me started on things like a lamb shank in sauce thing I saw - £4!
I do shop at Lidl & Aldi at times, but I was astonished to find a 20% increase in price in just a couple of their offers.

Lamb shanks used to be so cheap...pricey now tho. I picked up a fish from Mr T's the other day (Bream) fishmonger usually charges me £2-3.50 at the most. T's wanted £4.50 :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Asda have put the price of Cathedral City up by 50p.
I've been walking down to Asda before going to Sainsburys to buy the odd cheaper priced thing. Thank heavens for mysupermarket:)0 -
If you think Asda has high prices, don't go to the Co-op. I was in my local one and items sold a few weeks ago seem to have doubled in price,
The best feature of the Co-op is their special offers and marked down groceries. Other than that, the pricing is ridiculous." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I was buying my dog the large tins of pink salmon as we're doing some detective work re his allergies. This is £1.57 in tesco, sains and morrisons. Was £1.58 in Asda, went up a couple of weeks ago to £2, then the following week £2.98:eek:. I emailed asking for an explanation and their reply was it had been a bad fishing year and all the others would probably put their prices up soon too, they have not changed yet! Oh and I work there so hopefully no upset customers come hassling me about price rises as i would have to agree!Smokefree since 27-9-20070

If it's any consolation I work there too! I'm sick of getting my ear chewed off by customers to be honest, I don't tend to actually shop there that often, I had just popped in to get a few things - even with staff discount it's a lot cheaper to shop elsewhere now!0 -
We don't have an Asda really near to me but I used to drive the 8 miles or so because they had good offers and it was generally cheaper than Mr T and Sainsbobs. I went a couple of weeks ago and also found that the prices were not that cheap anymore. I ended up not doing a shop there, except for a few bits which were on special and have gone back to a mix of Aldi, Sainsbobs and Mr T, all of which are near to me. I never say anything to the staff in stores about prices though because I know it is not their fault - any time I have e-mailed customer services I have never had a response.Jane

Might just be me but I thought a lot of tinned salmon was farmed: ie that it would be cobblers about "bad fishing year" as this is exactly what farming fish is for....
Mind you I dont buy it myself, if its farmed it should be on the tin... Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I think because I hadn't been aware of just how high the prices had increased, I had tended to shrug off the customers' rants - I remember one woman saying smartprice sultanas had increased from 49p to 99p - as she had a teashop and did all her own baking, she couldn't justify buying her stuff from Asda as she would have to pass the increase onto her customers and she wasn't willing to do that.0 -
I don't go to Asda very often as the nearest one is several miles away. I did go there today though and was amazed at how quiet it was. It's usually really busy but one of the SA's there said it's quiet because of the bargains at Tesco's at the moment!
I very rarely go to Tesco's either though and usually shop at either Morrisons for the offers or Sainsburys for the quality. My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.0 -
Food is getting so expensive! I remember a time when Ben and Jerrys ice cream was 3 pound odd, now it's more like £4.50!
We went to M&S last night to splash out on a nice ready meal lasagne for two to save time. They only had single portions, or a big one which looked like it fed 3-4 people, for a fiver. We thought that was a bit pricey so we went to Sainsburys instead. There we ended up buying a lasagne for two for £4.90....might as well have bought double the portion for 10p more in M&S!!!0
