Don`t know what to do....
I`ve been with Virginmedia for 10+ years for phoneline and broadband, line rental is £13.90 and BB £21.50. I have Sky TV. What do panelists think about changing to Sky `s new offer of £7.50 line rental and their broadband of unlimited which is apparently free. Does any one have Sky BB and phone, what is your opinion. Suggestions please on what to do.

Sky Unlimited if available from your exchange is very good but not free, the free option has a 2GB usage limit.
Broadband Unlimited is £7.50 + line rental of £12.250 -
If you have Virgin Cable BB, going to Sky will be a major disappointment due to the higher contention rates and slower speeds. If you don't care about BB, then the TV choice is slightly better, but the CatchUp services poorer.0

Thanks for your helpful advice, no I don`t have virginbb, just phone, I prefer Sky for tv, I`m still undecided. Any more advice is appreciated.0

You said in post one you had BBand from VM,so is it cable BBand then? If so I take it your phone is also cable?...
If that's the case, then you'll need to have a BT line installed as you cannot have BBand on a cable phone line.0 -
Jennie, Sky will install their own phone line normally £39 but looking at Sky earlier it's on offer at £10 at the moment!0

I've no idea of the relative contention rations of both companies, but I was with virgin for many years and I'm now at Sky.
Virgin's internet was very good as was their phone, however, (for whatever reason) I get better torrent speeds and a generally better internet experience with sky.
Sky also operate a completely neutral network - they don't slow down your connection or slow down certain protocols.
I'm getting 10-11 meg on my sky line and I believe I got 10 with Virgin. Of course I could have paid for more speed, but then it gets extortionate.
Having said all of this... I used to work as a Sky BB tech advisor and the speed of your line depends on many factors; I hit lucky, you may not.
Check samknows for a rough guide as to thye speed you should expect with sky.
It was fairly accurate for me as was Sky's initial linespeed estimation.
As for phone, well you get free caller ID with sky, whereas you have to pay with virgin. We find that useful, but it may not be a factor for you.
I was very anxious when switching and only did so as there are no fibre optics in our new street and I'm glad that's the case as Sky has been far better than Virgin.
The biggest improvement has been in customer service....
Top cashback have some good deals on, take a look before you switch and you might get some free cash.0 -
Thanks Daggy for your very helpful info. I`ve checked with Samknows and I`ll probably plump for Sky`s unlimited package. My only concern is will I be left without the intenet for a period of time during the switchover as my laptop is essential everyday. Spike 7451 asked about my phoneline it is cable and was installled when VM were Telewest as far as I know the old BT line comes to the front door still0

I've just cancelled my Virgin package, was on a good deal for the last year but now it hiking by £120 a year. Going to Sky through topcashback, works out about £33 a month for unlimited bb, phone, and entertainment package. I was on XL with Virgin but to be honest all I watched was the channels you get on Sky's £20 a month deal and can live without ESPN.
Unless of course Virgin call me back like last year and offer me something to stay.0 -

You have cable bband, which comes over the COAX (TV) line, not the phone so tell VM to cancel your BBand the day AFTER your DSL bband goes live...Simples!0 -
I logged onto Sky`s website just to check everything before I signed up for it but I read their forums, now I know some people post on forums to discredit companies but honestly there are a lot of people disgruntled and now I`m not sure. There didn`t seem to be a forum for people who were happy about the setup, or if there was I couldn`t find it.0
