Hello x Thanks for the reply. I am trying to give her some meat in her diet and thought this would be a good way of doing it as most of her meals are veggie at the moment.

Can I put the uncooked veggies in the oven just with the stock?
Do I need to cover it? How long roughly should I cook it for?

    Thanks

    Alison x

Sorry, I don't think adding chicken stock gives her any meat in her diet anyway. I'm a carnivore myself so don't have any more info; could you not make it exactly the same as you'd make a vegetable stew for yourself and then puree hers a bit?

you can cook it in the oven, or simmer on top of the stove (cheaper than putting the oven on:D ). You could soften the veg (cut up into small pieces obviously) gently in a little oil or butter first before adding the stock / water (your choice which) as it makes it nicer for some reason. You could add a few chopped herbs if you like, but no salt or pepper for a little one. Cover the pan because that saves electricity / gas and it won't evaporate off so much of the liquid. It will be cooked when the veggies are soft (poke with a fork). You can then liquidise it, mash it or leave it with bits in depending on how old your little one is. You can add seasoning and have some yourself too, as a nice soup.

    Hello peeps :hello:

I'm not long into this home cooking malarkey :rotfl: therefore never made a stew before, I'm looking for any recipes that are easy to follow :D

Although I'm a meat eater, my OH is not, can I make a veggie stew?

One more question, can I freeze them when they're cooked? ;)

The best recipie for a veggie stew is the 'all in'.

We use a slow cooker and shop up anything in the fridge, especially things that are looking a bit 'sad'.

Add in stock, seasoning and a tin (or 2) of chopped toms and away you go.

Other additions include baked beans or any other pulse, pearl barley, left over rice etc etc.

Never had a bad one to date! It's the ultimate use-up-er.

    Hi everyone,

I've been looking all over for a recipe for a tastey vegetable stew which only uses cheap everyday ingredients but havent found much inspiration. If anyone has any they'd like to share i'd greatly appreciate it!

Basically im testing if it's possible to save money (and eat healthier) by cutting the amount of meat I eat by at least half. Basically any other filling vegetable recipes are also welcome. I say 'filling' because im feeling like without my meat I might starve! :p

    Thanks!
  • Anything here suit you? I'll merge this later to keep ideas together.
