I'd also like to know about this, as I plan to switch again, just as soon as I've taken full advantage of the 0% overdraft facility.
Having said that, they still seem to have the top current account, all things considered.

I didn't notice the bit about only being able to pay in cheques for over £500 at A&L branches - do they want my money or not?

    Hi Stephen,

As far as I am aware there is no such rule - I pay small cheques into my account at an A&L branch regularly and have never encountered this. I also have never seen such a clause in the T&C's. The only rule as far as branch-based transactions go that I know of is that you cannot withdraw less than £250 at a branch counter but I'm sure you can pay in whatever size of cheque you need to.

    Regards

    Michelle

That probably explains why I couldn't find it then. <Red Dwarf/Kryten impression> "Righteous indignation mode off."

    Hi Morg_monster,

Better to give notice - you can ask at the branch and they'll make sure they have enough cash "put by", or you can probably do it over the phone. I've only done it by asking at the branch myself, though, when I needed lots of cash for something or other.

As with most banks there is some sort of limit, which probably varies by size of branch.

As MarkyMark says you have to give the particular branch you would like to make the withdrawal from notice (you can also do it at a Post Office by calling the A&L customer service centre - 08459 26 26 26 and select option 9 - to arrange it.)

I've only had to ring them 3 times to date.

OK, I did have a bit of a run in with one, who was unfortunate in hitting one of my "Kaset" buttons. I mentoned that my salary would be going in at the end of the month and he, for some unknown reason, threatened me with an underfunding charge if it didn't. I just kept pushing him to justify this until he hung up on me, which was my intention all along.

However, the other two were so well handled, they more than made up for the dodgy one.

I've spent the thick end of 25 years on front line customer service at BT, so I not only appreciate the difficulties, but also expect the same level of service I provided others.

BTW, my problem call was with a man, the other two were handled by ladies - read into that what you will!
