I recently moved to the A&L Premier current account from Nationwide, like many others, to take advantage of the 0% overdraft (remember, it's only for the first year, and only on the first £2,500).
The switch took ages, and I ended up incurring a £12 late fee from my credit card company.
The online banking is not as friendly as the Nationwide, as you can't really do any different views of the statements.
Only last week, a DD went out of my account, espite the fact that I cancelled it several weeks ago. I'm chasing them now...C'mon you Canaries!!0 -
have given A&L a go, but 5 months in I really don't like them!
we've got several accounts, savings and current a/cs (me adn DH boith sole a/cs and a join one) and moving money between them seems totally random  have called CS to try and set up SOs between accounts as I couldn't use that particular combination of joint current to sole savings online, they set them up, but wrongly
sometimes money moved between two accounts shows in both at once, for several days ! only on the summary, but it's enough to confuzzle me!
Can anyone tell me, if I close the accounts, will I have to give back the incentive money for being recommended ? any other nasty things I should know before we go?
thanks

I'd also like to know about this, as I plan to switch again, just as soon as I've taken full advantage of the 0% overdraft facility.bumpybecky wrote: »Can anyone tell me, if I close the accounts, will I have to give back the incentive money for being recommended ? any other nasty things I should know before we go?

No they will not take this money back if you close your account.

Where do you get this idea from?morg_monster wrote: »-I still used my HSBC account to pay in small cheques to as you aren't supposed to be able to pay in to A&L branches for cheques under £500. friendly branch staff may make an exception though - i never asked.
As I understood it, you can't withdraw money over the counter, unless it's over £250.
But you can pay in cheques for any amount. And you can pay in cheques at the post office - which are open longer hours, and of which there are far more than there are A&L branches.
In fact, the Premier Direct user guide on the website doesn't even mention the £250 minimum for branch cash withdrawals, so I'm not sure whether that still applies. I never, ever, try to withdraw cash over the counter so I wouldn't know - but I pay cheques in all the time over the counter.0 -
Been with A & L for many years and can honestly say I have never had a problem... I have numerous Accounts, savings, current, credit card, Isa Account and do all my transactions at their online banking and have never had one thing go wrong ...... I even use my debit card when buying a car as I just transferred the money from my savings acc in plenty of time ........ I would say give them a try to anyone... in fact most of my family now bank with them also on my recommendation and everyone is very happy....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Hi Morg Monster,
MarkyMark's right - there is no rule to stop you paying in cheques at a branch or a Post Office (you will need to take a paying-in slip for there though.) I pay in cheques all the time without any problem.

I didn't notice the bit about only being able to pay in cheques for over £500 at A&L branches - do they want my money or not?
Having said that, there don't seem to be that many A&L branches, and your local Post Office probably needs all the business it can get - use it or lose it, as they say.
For info', you need the cheque(s) and paying slip in a deposit envelope. The PO will then give you a receipt, although the amount will be £0.00.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
