OS for Wednesday 28th September

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 28th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Hi all,
Been a long time since I started this thread!:rotfl:
Been awake since 3.30 and now it's 5am! Maybe it's because I'm hungry, but can't eat as I have a fasting blood test at 9am. Went for a minor op two weeks ago and my blood pressure was too high so they wouldn't do it. Now on the pills, hence the blood test.

Cat decided that 4am was a good time to go out too!:T
Getting my nails and eyebrows done today, I'll probably fall asleep:rotfl: Just under a week to go and we are off to St Lucia for a fortnight.:j OH will get his diving, and I will get relaxation and another cocktail. Bliss!

Anyway, hope you all have a better start than me, maybe I'll go back to bed later!
I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Good morning, Hilstep, and all who follow.

Hilstep, I hope you don't have to wait too long to be able to eat. Good luck with the blood test. St Lucia sounds wonderful, the perfect holiday for you and your OH.

I was up early, too, because DH kept pinching my half of the bed - I ended up with about half an inch of mattress and no duvet, so I decided a cuppa was the better option, and I've been up ever since. There's a spider on the kitchen floor that I bravely trapped in a large upside-down plastic box, which DH will have to deal with when he gets up. The poor thing is walking around the inside edge of the box trying to find a way out, but I can't have it just wandering around, and there's plenty of air in it so he's not in any danger while he waits for DH to release him - as far from the house as possible!

I have to do my big shopping today, so I'll try and get out early to do that because I have several shops to visit, including my favourite fabric shop here; I want to make some new curtains for the bathroom at some point before winter.

Dinner tonight will be something called pork savoyard, which I shall do with salad and potatoes.

I have some ironing to do, including the bedding from the holiday gite that I look after, so I may get that done later - I'll see how I feel!

I've just ordered my new diaries for 2012, a small handbag one, and my very first Moleskine diary/planner - I've heard such good things about them, that I thought I would treat myself - they're not very MSE but I managed to justify it, somehow! I shall be longing to use it but will have to wait until January 1st! I've also ordered some refills for my two Parker pens that I've had for ages. They're my favourite pens, but I haven't been able to find refills here in France, so I've ordered some from eBay. I'm also trying to re-organise my household manual which has got into a bit of a state lately, with bits of paper falling out of it every time I pick it up.

The weather forecast is for wall-to-wall sunshine for the next five days or so, so I shall be making the most of the drying weather this week.

Well, I hope you all have a great day. Lots of hugs to those who are unwell or anxious.

Good Morning Hilstep and Mioliere x
Another one up early and am now very frustrated as my washing machine door has stuck. I was planning on getting my bedding washed early and out on the line as it is a sunny day ahead:mad: I cant wake Kids Dad as he would go ballistic! Grrrr...grumble.

I hope you guys get some rest later and that the medicine has done the trick regarding your blood pressure Hilstep x
RosyRed - congratulations and love to you all on the birth of your grand-daughter x

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning all - delicious nights sleep on my new bed last night (and the best thing was I managed to give the old one, plus duvet and pillows away on Freecycle, so I feel suitably angelic!!) only downside was my neck seems to need time to get used to it and is very stiff this morning.

School trip to an oriental museum today - cos ds1s class are doing all about ancient egypt - a topic I adore, so am more than happy to help. Puppy had first dry AND clean night last night - but I did get up at 3am to let her and Domino out. Am very pleased. Need to iron uniform - my pile of ironing is getting bigger as this fine weather continues, and I'm less and less inclined to do it - but I must bite the bullet and get it done. Hope weather continues as will be doing ALL washing that needs doing, but still hope to put up the curtain rail in the conservatory this weekend - it needs heavy curtains to be able to use it during the winter.

Mornings much darker now amazing how quickly it turns isn't it. love and hugs to those who need it and come back Bargain Bird xxx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

    Morning all!

Oooo its spooky outside so dark!!!!

Been having a crazy two weeks with all the business / van stuff so catching five mins before it all starts again.

    Hope your all right.

How's Noah? Is he coping with the dark mornings? Snips, (ds2) is finding it a bit hard. Luckily i was telling him it was going to happen, so hasn't been as bad as other years.

    good luck with tests hillstep!

RosyRed - congratulations on the birth of your grand-daughter :T

Well i've ogt a long day ahead, was awake at 5am and forced myself to stay in bread. But now i' up and ready to face the world, kind of.

Just need a pint of tea first before i was Coddy (ds1)up.

As soon as he's up, need to make more bread, find recipes for savoury snacks to give them for school. Then sorting out the business stuff yet again.
Fingers crossed its going to be another lovely day, yesterday we had sun and shockingly it wa swarm :D

Then have to phone up and find a new volunteer placement, budget cuts means smaller classes and less people for me assist with. Annoying but we thought it was going to happen.

Have a good day all whatever you do!

    Congrats to Rosyred
Hugs to Bargain bird, come back I miss you
Thick fog here this morning & a lot of thick drivers too, 2 of them tried to overtake me, the 6 cars in front of me & the milk float at the head of the queue, they came up against oncoming traffic & we all had to do an emergency stop to let them back in the queue, bloody idiots. What with them, the dafties dressed head to toe in black & on their unlit bikes & the unlicenced drivers picking up illegals for work in vans with faulty lights, stopping with no warning when they spot one of their workers, every journey is an adventure.
I think my hubby is probably responsible for the current heatwave, we had 2 snow shovels delivered yesterday.
Time I set off for work.
    Have a good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester

It was boiling here yesterday, lovely sunshine. Managed to get my bedding dry on the line. Looks like it's going to be the same today. DS has got an activity week at school this week so glad he's had decent weather.

ROSYRED congratulations on the bith of your DGD.

Hugs to all who need one today am struggling to keep up with the thread. Plan today to do Mum's cleaning, then picking the big dog up for the night. Really need to sort out my paperwork as well. Tea tonight will be chicken salad.

    Have a good day all.

    Morning everyone,

Rosyred congratulations on the birth of your grand daughter, any name yet? DD2 didn't have a name for 3 weeks after she was born as I was so convinced that I was having a boy we had only thought of boys names!:D

Beth hope that you are feeling a bit better.

    Bargainbird where are you?

Last night I took DS to the 6th form open evening at his school to make plans for next year. He seems decided in what he wants to do and the teachers said that he is suited to those subjects so all that remains is for him to work hard and get his GCSE results!

Today I have a quieter day at school, 2 of my classes are doing tests which means peace for a while and then lots of marking.

Have bought Hugh Fearnley's new vegetable book and want to try a recipe out of that for tea tonight.

Hugs to all that need them.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning everyone

Rosyred - Congrats on your granddaughter, such lovely news x

    Bargain - hope you're ok x

Sunny and bright here this morning. Washing out on the line with another load ready to go in. DH got home ok and brought with him the expected washing pile, so now have a full wash basket again!! Dinner last night was quickies as DS1 had Rugby training, stood on the sidelines waiting for them to finish and it was a really lovely evening. Dinner tonight will be roast pork, mash, veg, yorkshires and gravy. Have to go into work a bit early today and finish a bit late as cover is needed for those times, get the time back and everyone still shell shocked over the death of our friend/colleague last week.

Have received a couple of lovely "thank you" notes from ralliers who attended the recent rallies we have run, nice to be thanked as we always put in lots of effort and of course it's unpaid. Better get organised for work, just working until lunchtime, then off to Monday - but have lots to do and quite a busy weekend.

Have a great day everyone, hugs to those that need/want them, take care.

    Morning folks, and its a lovely one too, Will get the washing hung out in five mins once I have finished my cuppy. Nothing much to report here, everything is plodding along nicely! {(touches hairy wood!)}
Going to start the grocery challenge this week so this evening will mean checking through the cupboards and doing my favourite pass-time making lists! I have lists for everything!
Not sure what tea will be either, plenty in the freezer so it will be whatever the hand reaches first.
Out and about with work today so will enjoy my drive of 40 miles up into the back of beyond, everything is looking lovely, and I have to say that autumn is my favourite time of year,

hope you all have a good day,

    Suzy

    Morning all

It's a cold, clear morning in Glasgow.

Had some good news yesterday (relating to my mother's cancer) so I'm feeling a lot less stressed and more positive. I'm sorry I've been so moaney recently.

The cats are fed and out and the DW's on. I'm on my second cup of coffee and starting to think about breakfast and then getting on with life. I need to pop to the shops this morning then get the FlyLady list done and then I'm going into the city for a 'Meet the Author' this evening so it should be a good (if busy) day.

Hope everyone else has a good one.

ETA: Forgot to say: I also have the new River Cottage book so I'll be interested to hear what you make from it and if it's nice :)
