I own a suit jacket and trousers that needs to be dry cleaned as they are not machine washable. Rather than going through the hassle and expense of the dry cleaners, I did some research. I discovered you can buy a large bag/sack, put your clothes inside, seal it up and put it in the trumble dryer. The heat dry cleans the clothes pretty well, certainly good enough for my needs.

Can anyone here recommend me a brand/website that offers this within the UK as I do not know what this sort of product is called.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure your suit isn't machine washable on the gentlest wool cycle?

Thanks for that, I will check it out shortly.

When I purchased the suit, I just got the trousers and jacket which both state on the label, non-machine washable The shirt I had to purchase separately and this is machine washable.

The jacket and trousers are not wool, they are 65% polyester and 35% viscose. I am not sure if a gentle wash would ruin them or not, what do you think?

Well I might try the trousers in the washing machine on the most delicate setting it has (is woolite the most delicate?). If they get ruined, it would cost only £20 for a replacement pair. The jacket on the other hand is much more expensive, so I cannot risk this without first trying the trousers.

They don't need cleaning yet but when they do, I will give an update on here.

If you have a tesco clubcard you can cash in your vouchers for a club card deal to get dry cleaning at Johnsons.

  • If dry-clean only items have stains or marks then these can be spot-cleaned with a bit of ammonia and a clothes-brush. If they just need freshening up then hanging them in the open air and a press should do the trick

    Hi gohan,

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the existing thread on cutting dry cleaning costs to keep the tips and advice together.
