Purports to enable you to calculate your personal rate of inflation. Interesting, but still understated I think.

Begs the question 'why would the Government want people to realise how 'poor' their official measures of inflation are?'

My 'rate' is 8.9%. What about other posters?

My rate went up and down a bit starting at over 7% and dropping to 5% in one month. However, I think its rubbish. It makes too many assumptions to be accurate. For instance, it doesn't ask if your mortgage is fixed.

Am I correct assuming that -

Using the calculator, my inflation came around 3.5%.
That means, for same lifestyle, I need to spend 3.5% more amount of money to meet my needs.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

If you assume their calculator and calculations to be accurate, and that your lifestyle stays the same from year to year, yes.

While their calculator may be a fun way to waste a few minutes, I wouldn't put too much trust in the figures it comes out with.
