Hi there new to the site so iam not too sure if i have posted it in the right section anyway .I contacted tv licence people via email on the 14/09 to cancel my direct debit for the 22/09 because i couldn't make the payment. As iam unemployed and juggling bills around .So they sent me a email(which i still have) back saying they have confirmed there is no payment going to be took on the 22. And that i will receive a letter in the post stating the new dates for payments. But they went a head and tried taking the money anyway .I have now received a letter from the bank saying my account will be closed in 30 th days because of there being insufficient funds for the transaction .I really don't know what to do .Iv contacted the tv licensing and await a response Any advice would be great

You could demand a refund from your bank under the direct debit guarantee, as the payment was taken in error and you have an email to back it up. They should refund the money the same day I think.
If they close the account after this, complain and if they decline it complain to the FOS.:beer:0 -
If you manage to hold on to the account despite this remember in future to cancel the direct debit with the bank as well as the originator.0

The thing is though even if the money is refunded under the direct debit guarantee the bank are still within their rights to close the account.
As we all know, any bank can choose at any time to close any account for no reason whatsoever. It's the terms we all agree to when opening any form of current account.
However, OP, as others have said most certainly visit your branch with the correspondence from the TV Licensing people, as them to do an Indemnity Claim on the Direct Debit if it went out, and see what they say they can do.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

When cancelling direct debits I never just cancel it with the company or entity taking the direct debit. You should also cancel it with the bank as well to be double sure that they cannot take any more money from you. This task is simplified if you have access to online banking. Just log in and click your way through to the direct debits section and cancel the direct debit in question and that's it, job done!0
