Christmas job vacancies

I covered 12 Argos last year with no luck and have handed in 5 so far this year and have yet to hear back from any.



I asked in Cardiff Argos this morning and all the Christmas vacancies have already been filled.

Further to my previous comments, our local waterstones "may" take one or 2 ppl on for December only... heres where we really see a recession. have never seen shops not take anyone on before etc

yes truegho. mind you Waterstones are meant to be in trouble as a company. our HMV isnt taking anyone on either. so in our medium sized greater London town thats the Boots, HMV. and Superdrug taking on not temp xmas staff..

I dont think waterstones are in trouble, they were bought out in june for £53m by A&NN Capital Fund Management controlled by a russian businessman.

DCFC well the business press keeps saying both them and HMV are closing shops/ branches???

I was gonna ask if anyone has had any luck with Argos this year, ive managed 10 forms handed in now with no call backs as of yet.

The nearest HMVs to me are in central London which is no good, and the Waterstones that have vacancies are Harrow, St Albans, Kingston and Bromley The Glades.

No luck with Boots online for an interview, none of the Superdrugs in places I visit are taking on staff this year and the jobs appearing on my JC web search are pretty poor. Lots of 'man' jobs appearing (Automotive Workshop Controller and 7.5t Driver for example) but nothing only really 1 or 2 jobs a fortnight that I could say that I have the skills and experiences for.

not denying it Edinburgh.. just mentioning our local stores in a medium sized town in greater London both of which have toldme to my face they are not taking anyone on this year - or almost noone

We have no idea if the OP or indeed the people coming into this thread after reading Martin's email, live in your area or not. You suggested that two specific companies are in trouble, I linked to where both are recruiting on their websites.

I suggested Gumtree, you wouldn't use it, now that is absolutely fine and I believe you have a Christmas position but the OP is looking for suggestions of shops and where to look so rather than being defeatist about which shops you personally have had no joy can you perhaps give some pointers as to which chain shops you know are recruiting for Christmas?

It seems to be too late for Argos this year by all accounts but I did happen to notice in Tesco the other night a few completed application forms awaiting the manager's attention so don't discount the major supermarkets.
