    I despair.

What possible outcome could you think of that a CAB is going to tell you any different to the very good advice you've been given?

Your only option is to complain. You can either do that formally via a grievance or informally in correspondence or verbally (which may well be treated as a grievance anyway). You might get an apology and the manager might get a minor disciplinary penalty. What other courses of action could there possibly be?

Keep a diary, and put everything in writing. But I really don't think this is the issue to fight the war on. If for example your condition is serious enough to qualify you as disabled under the Equality Act and/or if the employer's behaviour continues in that vein, you may have cause for more serious complaint later, but there are a lot of ifs and mights there. Raise a grievance if you like, but keep it simple and polite, familiarise yourself with the procedure, and put everything in writing.

Yeah fair do's just didn't like this message from this 3rd party saying about obviously my health problem, manager and assistant telling this 3rd party they would like to get shot of me,I'm a bit annoyed
  • but as you said yourself; it's the ex girlfriend who's telling you that. She might be telling everybody the same thing and telling his friends that he's got a tiny penis and gave her crabs.

First rule of anything: ignore bitter ex's

That might tell you that your manager disclosed your health problems - but it certainly doesn't tell you that your manager wants to fire you.

I could make a post here saying "I know who you are in real life, and I know for a fact that your manager has always hated you and wants to fire you as soon as he can possibly get away with it, and I know that because he's told me". That would be pretty cruel of me - just as your manager's ex's comments sound cruel - but that doesn't make it true!

I agree with Jarndyce (and most everyone else too) - what do you want to happen? Realistically? What do you think will happen? Maybe you will get an apology, maybe the manager may be told off for sharing the information. Will this actually achieve anything? It is entirely possible that by making a big fuss about this that you will achieve nothing but the result you appear to fear - that they will want to get rid of you. By all means, if you feel that strongly, tell HR or the manager what has happened. But I can't see what you think will happen that will "solve" this for you. What do you think should happen?

report it to HR, it might focus the mind, managers in receipt of confidential information ought to know better.

Of course, even that is difficult, especially in a team where people know each other so well and have good friendships, e.g. out of work, then things can be said out of concern, not malice.

Had a situation last year, with an unfortunate miscarriage. I was bombarded with enquiries after health, of course I said nothing, other than colleague wouldnt be in, but it can be hard when people are genuinely enquirying about welfare or in the case of one or two grumbling about colleague not being there.!
