Standard advice (not that I've ever kept it) is build up savings of 3 x monthly income (your new income) then you can start planning what you want to do with the rest!!.
the good thing about being ahead of yourself debtwise is that people start paying you interest. don't be in too much of a hurry housewise although I know London is different, but mostly the market is not going anywhere for a while
and remember when you do come on to buy a house seek help from that board as they are very good !!I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Thats great advice, thanks Mark. Once I get my payslip in a couple of weeks I'll work out how much that will be and get saving!!
Yes, no rush at all housewise but its at the back of my mind that I want to do it one day. Not sure I'll ever be able to afford to buy in the area where I live now though!
Just had really productive morning. After a well needed lie in I hopped into action, cleaned my room, changed sheets, did 2 washes and most importantly of all....cleared out all of my notes, books, folders... everything!! SO satisfying. Am going to ask my colleagues if they want any of the books to have a spare set to keep in the office otherwise will try ebay first and then recycling!
Had a really fun day yesterday, got up to ride. Did two lovely horses with a different friend on each ride with me so had a good catch up and gossip. Then my friend from home came and met me and we spent ages in Harrods! lol started with the pet shop.... only £2,700 for a cavapoo puppy... anyone???? hehe then toy kingdom .... this bit is my fave, and then the food halls which I love! All I bought was a my friends xmas pressie, she is Scottish and has a black scottie dog and they had a lovely mini cuddly black scottie dog in a tartan bag its really sweet and she is in SA for 6 months she will love to have a mini dog to remind her of him!
So that's 4 xmas pressies I've already bought! Only 3 paydays left till xmas so going to try to spread out the pressie buying between now and then!Santander 0% £1,529.94

its easy to tell people to live the good life, but harder to follow
just to be clear - no point saving until you clear the cards (unless they are 0%). also that first batch of savings should be ready access (it with atmost a months notice)I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Hi LG,
It's really all coming together nicely for you. It's so good to hear the investment in your time is paying off so nicely now. Even better when you know exact figures.
The friend I've just been away with bought a cavapoo a few weeks ago!!!!
Isn't Harrods a great shop to wander around! Great gift ideas though.0 -
Just a post to say your thread is really inspiring
Pleased that you've been rewarded for your hard work! Keep it up! x

Harrods is fab...I once went in there with psychosis and just wandered and like the staff were so nice I came out with no psychosis
Just wondering if anyone else had seen the M+S final bargains lately? Only big sizes (mostly) where I was but they were putting stock out continually. So I got two dresses (one stretchy) for £16 - they were originally £108 combined and considering I had a voucher from training SW students last week I didn't complain....
Good news (fab news) on the spreadsheet. Have a good day
Is it me or is it jolly cold?

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the advice and messages been struggling to log on and reply but I do read on my BB and appreciate it.
1 week today I will have my new salary in the bank
I have just been thrown a bit of a curveball though. I have just been told something super secret that I can't share with colleagues. The long and short of it is that once signed off and put into action my job will no longer be needed in my current firm. Either I will get a role in the new firm, a different role in this firm or be let go altogether. I'd like to think with the investment they have made in my education they won't want to let me go but who knows.
I won't know anything more until next year most likely so can't sit around worrying about it but I do think it would be sensible to plan for the worst.
I have therefore decided that this payday and next payday I am going to put £300 into savings each month and reduce the debt repayment. That will mean by the end of the year, in savings I have one months rent which will make me feel more secure financially.
If I am fine and nothing happens when this change goes through or I get a new role then I can just lob a massive snowball at the debt but at least I will have had it there if I need it - do you guys agree?
Once I've saved £600 I'll just add to it by £100 each month which I had budgeted anyway and then the rest can go back to debt busting.
Right, I have to go as Im swamped with deadlines. Will catch up later xxSantander 0% £1,529.94

Hey LG Chin Up
You might want to post a summary of your position on the employment board. They can take you through the ins and outs of it.
There are reasonably clear things they have to do in redundancy and taking you to one side and telling you its super secret is not one of them. Once they have broken the rules you have them by the balls and can pretty much name your price to go
Maybe they hope you will go to another place so they don't have to pay up. Maybe there is a history of letting people go once they have qualified
Ultimately you need to work out if what they might give you makes up for working on a potential lame duck job.
My gut reaction - despite potenital feelings of guilt about abusing the support you have received - you should start looking in earnest for another job. I think they just lost your trust - even if you are their golden girl and they are devastated to be in the situation - they don't seem to be handling it very well
but like I said go over to the other board - I never actually left a job just got taken over 4 times so I am not the expertI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
