Changing to a different tariff with the same company

My npower SignOnline19 dual fuel contract ends on 30th September 2011, although I will stay on it until 15th October for some reason according to their letter??? My 12 months with npower is not complete until November. Taking into account the deferred bonus "trap" and the results of the comparison sites, it seems Npower's SignOnline24 tariff would be a reasonable option.

At the last bill, I also had an outstanding balance of £165 , which I would prefer to pay off as a lump sum than carry that forward.

My questions:

I read elsewhere on this site that someone in my situation was doing this via Moneysupermarket and getting cashback. Is this possible even though you are staying with the same supplier or is it done by phoning npower direct as an existing customer?

I understand the £100 deferred bonus has already been incorporated into this year's direct debits , is that correct, please?

Is the move onto the new tariff fairly immediate or would I be stuck on the default Standard tariff (which starts 15th October) for a while?

I know can get these answers from npower, but I am wary of them (all) and want to be able to consider all aspects before I actually pick up the phone to them!

Thank you.

Yeah you can upgrade through a comparison site and get the cashback.

In my experience retention switches like this happen fairly quick (within a week or two)
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

    Thanks for your reply.

I am a bit confused re this cashback element as there seems to be contradictory info in various threads, for example .
