Tesco DISCUSSION, grabbits and misprices thread 11+

Someone asked about MOCs. My local was closed for a refurb so they were giving out £4 off £20 to encourage us to use the other stores while it was closed. Normally I'd have a lot of trouble spending £20 but it's easy when you know how. The biggest bit is how to spend that much as we like to buy bargains. What you need to do is condition yourself to paying for items that are dearer in Tesco and fingers crossed for a JTD voucher when compared to Asda. This isn't guaranteed but here's one that worked for me:
Pampers nappies: T-2 x £12.98, A-2 for £20
So in T's it cost £25.96 - £4 = £21.96
JTD was £5.96 so effective final total was £16
But beware, Tesco have a nasty habit of not comparing when they know they'll lose a lot of money. They were selling 200g jars of Nescafe Gold Blend for £6.98 but Asda had them on offer for £3. Guess what happened when you priced checked ....... yup, Tesco says no!
And as for all these moving threads and multiple forums, I just posted the bit below on this threadOk so here's my tuppence worth.
Take the Honey Shreddies deal a couple of weeks ago. For that deal it could have gone in:
Vouchers - you had to use a £1 off voucher against the product to get it free but then there's ......
Freebies (no spend) - as you got the product for free because of the coupon but then there's ......
Food Shopping & Groceries - after all Shreddies are food but then there's .....
Quick! Grabbit while you can - there's no time limit on how long the deal has to last for but from memory this offer only lasted a week or so.
So for one particular deal there's 4 forums it could/should have been posted in so where do you draw the line? The same goes for the Campbells soup deal (food, voucher, free, time sensitive). The custard/jelly deal would have been in 3 boards (no coupon needed) and then there are many other deals that require coupons to reduce the cost of a food item so you can bring in the Freebies Low Spend forum for deals such as Walkers crisps:
Competition - enter on Facebook to get a
Voucher - for money off the item which should have been in ......
Food shopping & Groceries - as Walkers crisps are food but then there's .....
Freebies (Low Spend) - as the crisps weren't free but the low price was based on
Quick! Grabbit - special price in Tesco hence a Grabbit.
Confusing isn't it? That's 5 places for one deal
I'm not lazy but I think the moving of all these threads has been a bit of a knee jerk reaction to all the new users coming on complaining. It's actually more difficult for the majority of grabbit users to check multiple boards (minimum 3 but anything up to 6 or maybe more) than it is for those who get annoyed at a few Tesco threads to just skim past them on look through a couple of pages in Grabbit.
I know I don't pay for this service and at the end of the day I will adhere to whatever rules are in place but when there is no consistency and some threads get moved and others don't then I feel myself and others have a right to pipe up and post comment.0 -
Hi everyone
Can you all help us keep threads friendly and on topic? It would be a shame to have to close discussions, particularly MoneySaving ones.
Thank you!Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Hi, I hope you don't mind me popping on with a question but you all seem to say that your shopping used to be £100 a week (which mine is) but now is more like £30 or £40. How do you manage this please? I would love to reduce mine.0

just wondering if there is a guide to terminology anywhere or if some could enlighten me. new to this and a bit confused by "DTD" "sels" etc.0

The bills reduce over time.
We're aware of any vouchers/coupons that can be used. Any glitches that come up, misprices that are found, and most of seem to stockpile when we've found a bargain.
There was huge money saving opportunites with T Feb/March time this year, and some of us still have items from then, to use up. EG Dishwasher tablets, washing liquid etc etc. So, having got those whilst they were very cheap (or even free in some cases), we dont need to replenish those stocks yet.
But there are huge savings to be made, by SPAVVING (spending money to save) on the right itmes, at the right times.
Recently, eg, we've had shreddies priced at £1 at T's, and there has been a £1 off voucher for shreddies. So where did we get them from?!
Keep following the thread, and any grabbit food items, and you'll gradually get your bill down too.The mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open0 -

Hi not sure if there is a guide anywhere but I do know:
DTD = double the difference
SEL = Shelf Edge Label0 -
To make such drastic savings took me a few months to get to the stage you mentioned. I call it using 'shopportunities'
Bulk buy when opportunities arise on products with long shelf lives, ie, toiletries, detergents, jars n tins etc.
I haven't bought tea, coffe, toiletries, washing powder/liquid etc for months as they were bought in bulk when at silly prices.
When you get to this stage you will only be buying perishables such as meat, veg etc and will have a left over budget for aforementioned shopportunities (glitches!).
Instant savings can be made if you are willing to frequent your local supermarket at reduction times.
Only buy what you need too. It is oft said, a bargain is only a bargain if you need it.
Hope this starts the ball rolling. Others will be along with their advice too. (Or already have done so in the time it took me to type this on my phone):A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A
Grocery Spend Weekly Challenge (Sat-Fri):£30.50/£400 -

Did get some loreal sublime bronze for £1.75 from £12.99 and biz buin factor 50 for £1.75 that will come in handy.
Organic pasta sauce, wholewheat penne and tesco lasagne sheets (not value) are scanning at 17p, not seen it mentionec, but it may have been tucked in between the friendly banter from last night! Please don't judge me. you couldn't handle half of what I've been through.0
