You might see people mention 'the old DTD'. This was the epic fail of the Tesco -v- Asda price comparison whereby Tesco would give you a voucher for double the difference if Asda were cheaper. Well on here was a cottage industry that many of us subscribed to so we bled them dry. This explains comments about Maggies (an Oral B toothbrush that looked like Maggie Thatcher that Ts sold for £10, A sold for £2 so a £16 DTD voucher and £6 profit), dishwasher tablets (if memory serves, certain packs of Finish tablets gave a DTD voucher of almost £20 on their own so a £7 profit) and some lovely L'Oreal wrinkle cream which again gave a decent DTD voucher.

These days Tesco offer what we call JTD (Just The Difference) when Asda is cheaper however there are some glitches, generally to do with wine *hic*. The last biggie was for Galllo wine (well for me anyway). Ts sold Gallo for £6.48 a bottle so 6 bottles were £38.88. In-store there was a wine promo so you got 25% off 6 or more bottles so only paid £29.16. Asda on the other hand had 3 bottles for £10 so we expected a JTD voucher from the online price checker for £9.16 only Ts messed up and the pricecheck was done against the full price so a voucher for £18.88 per 6 bottles meaning that effectively 6 bottles cost £10.28 or £1.71 per bottle :D

The current DTD (Double The Difference) is a whole other kettle of fish. It's a real shame when you find yellow SELs (Shelf Edge Labels - the labels under the product showing the price) that are OOD (out of date). Yellow labels tend to be for RTC (Reduced to Clear) items but generally are for offers which have finish dates. Sometimes these labels are missed by the PI team (Price Integrity - a team whose job it is to check prices match between the label price and the scan price and also that any offers are up-to-date). OOD SELs are like hens teeth but when found on valuable items such as Denby dinner sets or landline phones, you can walk away with goods for next to nothing, free or the one we all hope for, a small profit simply because it's easier for Tesco to give its innocent shoppers DTD for overprices than face the wrath of Trading Standards for each and every misprice!

I think that sums everything up :j
