all the cheap fittings come from china. and the quality is very variable.
screwfix and toolstation are good value.

beware that some places charge high prices and you get the same chinese products.
    ie BQ, and homebase etc...
    Get some gorm.
  • Bristan have their own direct shop on Ebay. This is a great source of fantastic savings on brassware.
  • Firstly, NEVER consider unbranded taps on eBay - lots of cheap Chinese importers flogging substandard taps at unreal prices. Honestly, there are plenty of online shops out there cheaper than eBay itself, the likes of Taps Empire, QS Supplies, Boundary Bathrooms etc. etc. However, no one shop is universally cheap for all products. After you have identified a specific product, search for that particular product on Google Shopping and you'll be surprised !

Irrespective of where you buy from, I'm a big fan of Bristan taps - good quality, realistic prices.

I have looked at Grohe and Bilstran (Nice designs), and I should have said that my budget is around £150 - lever action basin single hole mixer, bath twin hole mixer shower. I will have to pay a bit extra for the bath waste (strange that the basin taps often come with pop up wastes, but you have to pay extra for a bath waste).

Grohe are top notch unbeatable German quality - but they come with a price tag to match.

Hows that then ..is it insulated tin ?

    all the best.markj

Sorry for not getting back quicker - for some reason I didn't get an email saying someone had commented :)

Its enamelled on the inside and it looks like its been spray painted black on the underside.

There was a big metal (no paint etc) 'tag' on the bath that was connected to the earth (big wire from the tag to the water pipes)

Not sure about the double insulated!

Some of the high street DIY outlets also seem to offer basic taps of somewhat dubious quality. As the poster says, look to specialist places for the real deal. Ebay is great, so long as you check-out the supplier's history and feedback.
  • What kind of taps is it your after? Are you looking for modern, traditional, freestanding....?
