Whether it is possible to move providers remains to be seen, but I would rather name and shame SSE for sharp business practices......
SSE want you to leave because the money they will save will be pure profit for them, because they are not reimbursed by Government. for FiT payments. I'm staying with them through thick and thin because I don't want to reward their ineptitude.:

My FIT reading to EDF is due every 3 months, I have always given the reading on the 1st of each month it is due and EDF have always paid it within a few days. :)

My Fit reading falls on 1st March each year and the FIT rate increases on April 1st each year so EDF have to estimate what proportion for old rate is to be paid in March and what amount for new rate April & May.

The invoice they send me each time does not show how they calculate this, it just shows a total figure for Generation Payment and a figure for Deemed Payment.

I know it is only a few pounds either way but shouldn't they show how it is calculated, do other suppliers show the breakdown?

Also should I leave the March reading until later in the month to help get a more accurate payment...

Why not give them 2 readings, one for 1st march till 1st april and then 1st april till 1st june. Explain why in either your email/phone call and hope they can do the rest.

Best I can offer unfortunately, my FIts provider works jan to march so don't have to worry about the change in rates.

Hiya Richard, I'm with EDF, and had a chat/argument with them last year as the 2nd qtr (Apr to June) is always a tiny bit low. This is how they calculate it:

They take the Mch reading date, divide the 2nd qtr generation by the number of days included, then apportion the generation by days to before/after April 1st. They don't take account of the fact that generation in Apr and later is higher (on average) than in Mch.

EG (and ignore roundings) lets say you submitted early Mch and late June, they'd take the late June gen, then divide by 120 = x, then apply 30*x as Mch gen. The assumed Mch figure will be too high, and therefore some post inflation units will get paid at pre inflation rates.

Just to rub salt into the wounds, it doesn't seem to matter what time of the day you submit figures. I entered the Mch figures at 9pm 30/3/13 and they still apportioned 2 days of gen (from the 2nd qtr submission) as first qtr units. Oh well!

However, the actual difference will be pretty small (in my case tiny) in monetary terms.

I'm with Eon and mine is split as yours. I just give them 2 readings for the different rates as tunnel says, and have had no problems:D

I tried to give them two readings last year but they said
"Unfortunately as you have already submitted a meter reading for this quarter we are unable to accept another reading"

So can't give two readings, maybe this is only applicable to EDF..

I was with EDF for my supply back in 2011 when had panels fitted but have since switched to nPower for supply but kept FIT with EDF as seem to pay promptly.

Maybe I will ask again as they seem to all be changing the rules from the early days.

Thanks all for your feedback and your detailed explanation of EDFs calculation Martyn1981..;)

I'm with EDF and my meter reading month is March (I've just got the reminder) so I can at least submit as late as possible in the month to ensure minimum overlap of the different rates.

Anyone else with experience of British Gas?
Good: Reading submitted by email 09feb14 cheque received 15feb14.:T
Frustrating: Their system continually tries to advance my reading date by 10 days per quarter - I try to resist this as it will cause problems for my children :D but we are already over a fortnight out of kilter.
Annoying: In 2012 the rate change apportionment robbed me of £0.50 and in 2013 the heist was £3.09 - perhaps I should try submitting a reading at the end of the month and see what happens?
