House Prices Surge 68%

5.3% a year is hardly a mindblowing investment, even if we add on possible rental yield.
Plus its not likely we'll see this kind of boom repeated over the next 10 years.
If you are refering to homeowners, it is primarily their home and usually only secondly an investment, however that said 5.3% tax free represents over 8.8% gross to a higher rate taxpayer, whilst not amazingly high I would take that over most other options.
For an investor who bought with say a 20% mortgage that 5.3% gets well into double figures when you express the capital growth on the actual capital invested.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Yes, regarding the Express front page, it would be better if the Ghurkas could spread themselves around the country but you can't blame them wishing to be near fellow Nepalese'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Really ?
Which bank account offers a return of anything like that?
You have to move into deeply speculative areas, such as commodoties which have scalded many folks in recent weeks, to get anything above that level.
Personally, I am getting rental yields of more than 7% for each of my BTLs and all of them have seen double digit price growth since the crash of 2008.
Plus its not likely we'll see this kind of boom repeated over the next 10 years.
With rental demand so high, and sales supply so low - I would say that overall return on property is likely to remain very high for many years to come.0 -

Yorkshire bank are offering 4.5% on their 5 year fix ISA.0 -

.
5.3% average CG plus 5.5% yield (even on current values, never mind values of a decade or two ago) is a pretty tasty return. Especially given the leverage and relative safety.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

What clearly irritates the HPCers is that this news contradicts that which they would like the general public to see.
To the assertion that "no-one reads the Express anyway" it appears that it has a circulation of 625k daily and if you add the 2.5k views on HPC then its getting fairly widely read not only by the general populace but also by the bitter and twisted HPCers (which is much more satisfying).

You have just proved my point.
There is nothing offering anything like 5.3% capital appreciation + rental yield of the same level again.0 -

So not 11% then.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
