  • I'd double check the model version and firmware, here http://support.netgear.com/app/products/family/a_id/1288 what you've got does n't look right if like you say it's V1.

Remember to update via ethernet with IE and on the XP lappy, hope that helps?

Yes I am using the XP lappy with the ethernet connection. I beleive it is version 1 because of the picture as my router is silver and the others are white. Is there a way to check for sure I can't seem to see it on the router or in paperwork etc

  • Have you put the details back on the router for your ISP?
The negotiating suggests something amiss there

Yes the silver version is V1, on the label it will have DG834G and no version number after it.

The firmware that you listed in the post above looks wrong it should be 3.01.38 download from here http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/259 Try updating to that and if you still have problems double check username and P/W etc, as DCM suggests, these are case sensitive.

As turns out the orange flashing on the asdl icon was more to do with equipment than the settings of the router. I was running 2 phone lines out of my phone inlet and when I unplugged one of them the asdl icon went back to being green as it should be...so after that it was quite easy to get thing back on track. Now I will have to replace the upstairs extention and check when plugged it its stays on green.

    Cheers all

Good news. Just as an afterthought, it is always worth backing up and keeping a copy of your router settings in case anything happens down the line (pun intended :)) and you need to reset.
