How long have you had the house? Didn't you check before you bought it? Have you only just noticed?

Mutter mutter. Weird, dirty people on here. It's true what they say about the internet :D.

  • You have a toilet though?

We had no hot water once for a week (no boiler as was being moved but was waiting for gas pipe to be moved) and was 6 mile each way to my mums every day for a shower. Was quite traumatic! Esp as we were really busy till stupid oclock working on house after work. Did work to our advantage though, as they started feeding us as well.

We do still have a toilet yes.

I have pictures, but they're on my phone as camera has died so will have to wait til complete to post them up.

Entire bathroom was tiled, they're now all gone. Ripped down 2 plasterboard walls. Replaced with new, moisture resistent, plasterboard. Added extra noggins to attach heated towel rail to. Moved shower power wire from trunking to inside wall. Scraped off all old skim/tile adhesive from other 2 walls (and most of skin from the knuckles on my right hand!). Friend (who is also builder) is about to start plastering, he'll come back another day tp skim everywhere. Manwife is currently installing taps on new bath and I'm making food/brews, which i know sounds terribly gender-division-esk, but frankly I'm damn hungry so I don't care!

Well, although he said he'd not skim today, it's gone quicker than we thought, and he's skimmed one full wall already. He's gonna do the wall with the door in it and about half of another wall, so then it'll be all done. The other bits will be either hidden behind a bit we're building out next to the bath, or under tile. It'll make sense with a picture or two ;)

Am really pleased with how it's going :D feel a bit spare-part-ish though. Manwife is trying to learn the fine art of plastering, and there's nothing else to do til it's done.

Got heavy snow forecast overnight and tomorrow :( no gymnastics in the morning methinks.

Progress report: he did 3 walls last night, 1 remaining. We originally arranged for him to finish up this evening, but with the snow nobody was going anywhere today. However, we have a bath, in place, plumbed in. The basin/vanity is now back in place, plumbed in and the worktop has been shortened slightly so it's now a perfect fit. No shower yet but I managed to wash my hair in the bath tonight which was nice after a weekend of demolition (plaster dust EVERYWHERE!). The bath is amazing! :D

Today I also recycled 2 old blackout curtains into 2 blackout blinds for our bedroom window! You have no idea how much I am looking forward to sleeping in the dark tonight. It's been years. Honestly, about 6 years since we had a properly dark bedroom  on that note, I am departing to enjoy my dark bedroom!

No ipdate on remortgage though - fella we've been dealing with has mysteriously vanished...

Hi Cazzie, I had my bathroom done earlier this year... you wouldn't believe what was underneath all the tiles.

Here's a photo! That is bright, shiny wallpaper, by the way, in a bathroom that is 5ft square!

Glad it's not just me who has found questionable DIY in their home! :rotfl: bathroom is getting there. We had to stop as manwife's bike started leaking oil all over the place - seems his radiator bust, so we had to buy a new one. Don't have enough in the bike expenses account to cover it, so I think I will increase that SO a bit. Was waiting on remortgaging to do a new SOA, but tbh I think I will just do it now because I'm fed up of waiting.

The mortgage has been slow going. I'm actually quite unimpressed with the whole thing. It would have been less hassle to stay with Santander. The value of the house has been decreased (not surprised tbh), but it means we're now no longer below the 75% LTV threshold so on a higher interest rate. They required proof of income, which we sent in, and they then claimed that we hadn't provided sufficient proof (despite sending exactly what they required), and wanted to write to his employer's HR department. And between all of those things there have been week long delays for no apparent reason. The whole thing has been a real farce. Bit put off doing it again tbh.

Manwife has been offered a large amount of additional work, plus potential for overtime, which is nice. I'm hoping to book onto an IPEN training course in the summer which will give me another opportunity for work which will be flexible around home ed and doulaing, but I have to save up £360 for the course, plus a year's membership to IPEN. So I am having a clear out of stuff (although have just missed a free listing weekend on ebay... d'oh!), to pay towards it.
