  • Morning Caz, thanks for the heads up, I have a pile of DSs clothes to eBay, plus a printer so that's a job for Friday night - pic, text and get ready for uploading.

Have a good day, Tilly x

    Welcome :)

Having got bedding for Lumpy, and some birthday party bits, (and after postage and fees) I've got about £48 left of my sales last week. So I want to get another £20, and that will cover the man-wife's birthday present and a Lightning McQueen dressing gown (if possible) for the boy; if there's anything left after that (do I dare to hope?!) it will go in the OP pot. :j

I just got these in the post today and they're awesome! :D really pleased!

Photographed my items for eBay tomorrow: 9 new items, plus 10 that didn't sell last time.

I can't decide whether to trade in the DVDs I have, or to put them on eBay? Anyone have any experience doing either? The feedback for turnintocash and cashbee is appalling, but music magpie is offering me less than £7 for 8 boxsets, 4 individual DVDs and 1 CD. Even with 10% cashback via TCB that's still pretty low... but of course you can't guarantee that they'll sell via ebay or Amazon. Any thoughts anyone can give would be most appreciated here!

ETA: I forgot to add, £300 went into our FD Saver yesterday so our rainy day savings are now £4241.76 (based on the last time I checked my ISA) :T :T :T

Here's another question I've been pondering, albeit rather more long term than the eBay question above.

Previously I've aimed for us to have a buffer in our account, which would take care of any expenses which come out annually rather than monthly (insurance, tax, MOT, TV license) or even just a month where we've bought items not in our normal budget. I maintained this at £500 ish, and it worked quite well. However, I am considering knocking this on the head. My reasons are two fold:
1, we now bank with FD who've given us a free OD of £250
2, with the faster payments system most transfers, even between different banks, are completed immediately or by the end of the day
As I keep a very tight reign on where our money is and know in advance everything that is coming out of our account, I am wondering if I should transfer the money I would usually have in our current account into a saver which would earn us some interest, and can be transferred back as and when it is needed (eg, in April when the TV licence needs buying), and anything truely unexpected (which is highly unlikely) would be taken care of by the OD.

While I'm a big fan of making your money work for you (in fact, it's one of the first rules I learned), I do find it very reassuring having a bit of a buffer. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    *sigh*

Man-wife is currently in A&E with my mum and J'raff who ran into a doorframe and split her lip such that it's going to need stitches :( they're waiting on a specialist coming to see her.

Hmmm, keep the cash where there is a higher interest rate and transfer it back when you need it. But I would still keep some cash in your current account. Mr P was paid late last month and without the buffer the mortgage would have been paid by the expensive overdraft facility.

  • Hi Caz, so sorry to hear about your little one. The waiting is awful for you but fingers crossed it will be fine. Thinking of you.

On the money front - how often have you been caught out with insufficient funds - if very rarely then maybe give it a go for a month or so and see how you handle it?

I'm sure it will, it wasn't a very big cut, perhaps 6mm, but it was deep. It's crossed from her lip up onto her skin so that's why they say she needs stitching. I've no doubt she'll be racing about as usual tomorrow. I'm actually very calm in these kinds of situations - it's him that does the fretting, hence why he's the one who's gone to the hosp. He did the same thing when Squish poured a cup of tea on herself and ended up in the local burn unit. Bless him

The answer to that is not once since I took over and started being obsessive about it. Which was... *checks spreadsheet date* June 3rd 2009. On that day we were £60.68 overdrawn on one account and £3.83 overdrawn on the other. And since then we have never once been overdrawn.

  • Hi Caz, sounds like you get your £500 a month to squirrel away until needed. Can't see any risk for you.

Glad to hear you are calm - big hugs required upon return from A&E I think. For you, little one and DH.

They're home now. She's to go back tomorrow morning at 9am for a GA so they can stitch it.
