Mac Code

Does anybody have any ideas on how to get our MAC code from BT .They are being a pain in the neck with lots of excuses?:confused:

  • Wait until the the 14th of next month. OFCOM have decided that companies MUST provide you with yor MAC code FREE of charge whenever you request it.

  • If your contract has ended they should give it to you there and then over the phone, but why do you want to leave them I've just gone back to them in october 06 because I find them the best, you could haggle your price down you know.

    BT are one of those ISPs who have voluntary signed upto Ofcom's current Code of Practice for Broadband Migrations (see http://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice/codes/bbm_cop/ )..which means that they have 5 working days to issue the MAC code or else they are breaking the terms of the code of practive. Also of relevance is this bit:
    The existing service provider cannot withhold an authorisation code to enforce debt collection or contractual rights. However, customers are not freed from contractual obligations they have entered in to with their existing service provider - i.e.: they will have to honour the remaining term of an existing contract or pay early cancellation fees, if applicable. An existing service provider will still be able to take reasonable action to enforce their contractual rights even after a customer has migrated to a new service provider.
    So throw the Ofcom rule book at them and they'll soon comply with your request hopefully!
