Why do you need a combi boiler?
Other than its age, and the fact that its probably broken/you are afraid it will do soon, what are your reasons for changing?
Are you happy with your Hot Water & Heating? Are you merely after a more energy efficient option for heating that water?
Stick with a 'system', its far better than a Combi.
Reputable brands? Vaillant, Veissman, WorcesterBosch, Baxi, Potterton, Intergas...
You're best bet is to get hold of some local engineers, and request a quote from them.Mortgage Free Wannabe

Having had a combi boiler for years I would never to back to one for the simple reason it doesn't matter what fuel they burn as soon as the electric is off you have nothing, no heating and no hot water - miserable.
We have just had a open fire with back boiler taken out and after the fireplace was opened out a Stratford eco - boiler fitted. So far it is wonderful. We can burn wood and/or coal it stays in well with loads of hot water and lovely warm radiators. Already had the first power cut and hardly noticed it. Had my shower as usual and still nice and warm from the fire even though the rads weren't on (we are in a bungalow so no electric no pump)
If you go down the boiler route then the only one I would avoid - although I know they are meant to be one of the best - is Worcester Bosch. We had one and it was nothing but trouble (oil version) and friends of ours have a gas version and it is always breaking down, despite being regularly serviced and having had Worcester Bosch out to look at it. We both may have been unlucky but it would put me off having another one.0
