Not quite that good but hubby went to Homebase to buy a shed as per instruction from my friend and I to put on our recently aquired allotment. Now the thing is it was 10% day yesterday... after a lot of sorting 'out the back' they did find one for the advertised price of £120. OH said is there a 10% day coming up? and expressed disappointment that it was on a normal working day and he had missed it so the guy took pity on him and said he could have it for £100 ! a saving of £20 when yesterday we would only have saved £12 !! Well done that man0

You do not say if this was a new car or a second-hand one. To get one-third off the price of a new car the dealer would have to have a special offer from the manufacturer and, amybe, it was pre-registered. This will be reflected in the second-hand retail value.
The chances are the model you bought is to be replaced by a newer model. By getting one-third off you really got the car for what it is worth rather than the over-priced full retail value.
I got over one-third off the price for my new car (but extras - auto transmission, air conditioning were charged at full price) so in the end I saved about 30%. It was brand new and not pre-registered. The model was replaced about 3 months later with a new one.0 -
Sorry to bring this back to a slightly more serious note. Can I ask was this a brand new car from a dealer, a second hand car from a dealer or a second hand car from a private sale.
I am interested, as we will be looking for a new car soon. When we bought our last car, I rang around all the dealers asking if they had any showroom models for sale and eventually found one we wanted who was willing to do a deal. We had intended to pay cash up front but then when he worked out the finances, the interest which was 6% fixed for three years was covered by the saving!! This was back in 98, we are not really car people, we tend to drive them until they are falling apart, in the last couple of years we have been having them serviced at a non dealership garage, the car is worth so little now (on paper) that it seems crazy to pay dealership prices.
However, it was a blessing that we did the finances this way because, four weeks after gettting our car we were on the way to my son's 4th birthday party, I was following in our other car, car came out of a side junction and wrote the car off. Luckily the children were in the new car with hubby who was totally oblivious to what had happened to me. I wan't badly injured, but because we still had money left from previous car purchase we were able to go out and get another car for me.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

It was a second hand car from a dealer - I refuse to buy a brand new car, nor is the latest model on our list of priorities/necessary for our lifestyle
We'd already researched book prices, specs etc., so we were well informed and my dh is very new to thrifty thinking - hence my boast~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
