Phones 4 U - Didn't give me correct info

Hello.
I took out my original contract with Vodafone two years ago on a 24 month contract. However 19 or 20 months into my contract, I broke my phone. My fault so obviously Vodafone wouldn't give me a new one.
As I only had a small amount left to pay on my contract, but it was too early for an upgrade I went into phones 4 u and took out another 24 month contract with Vodafone. I explained to the sales person in the store that it was vital I have my current number for my job. He told me that was OK and that when my original contract ended I could get my old number put on to the new sim.
So since late June I've had my old SIM in my new phone (and used the new SIM in my vodafone dongle as mobile internet so it wasn't wasted).
However today I have cancelled my old contract and the sales person on at Vodafone told me there was no way to get my old number put onto my new phone, once you have a contract with a number, there is no way to change that number, and that the sales person at phones 4 u gave me incorrect information.
I'd like to complain to phones 4 u about this, but will they do anything? As I guess the sales person who sold me the contract would probably say that the did not tell me that I could change my number.
Thanks for any help you could give me.

1. You should not have cancelled the contract. You should have asked for a PAC code.
2. A PAC code allows you to keep your number, but transfer it to a different network. You can't transfer it to the same network.
3. However, you can use your PAC code to transfer your number to a PAYG sim on another network. That will mean activating an Orange, 3, O2 etc sim and making a call.
4. Then you transfer your number to the new network.
5. You then ask the new network for a PAC code after the old number has been transferred.
6 You now ring Voda with the PAC code from Orange and ask that the old number is transferred to Voda over writing your unwanted Voda number.
This will all take 2 - 3 weeks.
First thing, get your PAC code from Voda if you can for your old number and then use it as above.0 -
Only at O2 you can transfer a number.
At other networks the only way to transfer a number is to port it to another network PAYG sim card, then back to the original network. If you gave a 1-month notice today, call again, request the PAC and do the above.
A valuable lesson to learn is to never believe in anything any salesman tells you, especially at p4u: Phones4U and selling tactics0 -
I suggested this to the guy at Vodafone (the contract isn't cancelled, I've given them the 30 days notice).
They guy at Vodafone said I could get a PAC code and transfer it to a PAYG number on Vodafone or another network, but then I could not change the number on my new contract, they won't let me give them a PAC code for my new contract and change the number for that.
Hope that makes sense.0 -

I don't see any time restrictions on porting. How do I transfer my mobile number to Vodafone Pay monthly?
Keeping your existing number is easy when you join us. Here's how you can do it -- Place your order online
- When you have received your order, please contact your current mobile provider and request your PAC (Porting Authorisation Code)
- Once you have your PAC and your new phone, visit http://www.vodafone.co.uk/keepmynumber and complete the form
- We will transfer the number over to us within one working day, and let you know as soon as the number has been transferred.
Another lesson is to never believe in anything that Vodafone telephone CS tell you. There are more reliable sources of information.0 -
