Found a really good site the other day for gardening hints and tips called Jacks Garden Store. You can buy stuff from here but the blog is really useful if you are just looking for advice.
You can learn about plants, garden products and also how to become more self-sufficient using your garden.0 -

Carpet is heavier, but might contain chemicals which could leach into the soil after rainfall
At my allotment I use cardboard or newspapers weighed down with stones or clods of earth. The weeds are suppressed and the soil is improved
You're right about the strawberries! One healthy plant might give you 5 babies each year. At home I've got wild strawberries and they froze really well.0 -
I started a while ago - more fun that I thought and beats lugging compost everywhere. I bought a round 'composphere' compost bin, as I found my dalek style compost bin a pain. I just roll it now. Used it for my potatoes on the decking. These guys in brighouse make them and sell direct, so saved £40 off the original price from other guys on the web.0

greengardener - can you say why you found your dalek style compost bin a pain because I was thinking of getting a couple. We've currently got two open wire compost cages and they invariably end up being home to rats. But I don't want to replace them with something else if they don't work particularly well. Is yours the type with the small flap at the bottom for digging the compost out? I've always suspected that it's a bit fiddlesome and that digging the rotted compost out isn't nearly as simple as it would appear, especially if the compost is heavily compacted.0
