Anyone got advice on a high mileage vehicle?

  • even though I'd really like a new shape one.
thats it isn't it? I'd really like a new motor, with a nice fresh interior etc etc but its not really necessary. I currently do a few mile there and back to work, so i feel my car will last alot longer than i once thought after doing a bit of research online today. I'd probably be chucking money away if i bought something newer for just 15 mins driving each day.

but it is nice to travel where you're going in style!

Yes thats exactly it. I think we're in a similar boat in this respect. One on hand I'd really love one but on the other I can't justify spending £6-£8000 whilst this one keeps on going even though I've had my moneys worth. The old girl has cost, including the purchase price and repairs, 8 pence per mile if I were to scrap it and get nothing for it.
  • My advice is keep it until the MOT costs mega or a major part goes - nothing to lose now!

An A3 is a good car. Audi's are famously reliable, but, granted, expensive on parts. I had an Audi Cabriolet with nearly 165k on the clock and it ran like a dream. I still almost wish I'd never sold it.

Keep what you have, it doesn't owe you anything does it?

I've been thinking about changing my car recently, due to it getting a old and having high miles on the clock. I've been told by alot of people that if the car is driven sensibly and serviced regularly that there shouldn't be any need for expensive repair bills anytime soon. I just dont want to get to the stage where i have something major go wrong, and it costs almost the price of the little car to fix it!

Im driving a 2001 [51] Audi A3 TDi 5 door with 147k on the clock. I used to commute over 100 miles a day for work, however i've moved right next to work and i now do 4 miles per day. I love my wee car and its never had any problems, and i've only had to replace things due to wear and tear like tyres, brake discs/pads etc.

Anyone else got advvice on high mileage motors?

    thanks

Come back when you've got one;). 147k is nothing. It could easily do another 100k, probably 200k.

As soon as something expensive fails scrap it or sell for spares/repair. You could walk to work while you look for something else.

It surely doesn't owe you anything now.

Alternatively you could just sell it and not have a car?
