Worth a look at Parkers "car chooser." Worked for me. It suggests a selection of cars which may meet the criteria you give.

If you can put up with the badge
    Get a Skoda
Its a vw/audi with a cheap badge, the old A4 is also available as a Seat

Thanks folks - you guys always know your stuff...!

    Would you suggest another one...?
  • Forgot to mention.

Are there any hybrid estate cars out there.
  • Lexus SUV is about as close as you'll get to a hybrid estate - pricey (to buy and own). I'd recommend the BMW 318d ES - mid 50's mpg, strong residuals, well built and dynamically way ahead of anything else in the class. The Volvo will drop a ball come re-sale and the Skoda isnt particularly rewarding to drive. HTH.
  • What do people think of the Toyota Prius. I know its not an Estate but they still have quite a lot of room.
