My Husband, had to give up his job..he was self employed minicab driver...he is 65yrs.the reason he cannot carry on with this job is because it is costing too much money...Pays £140 a week to minicab office..£50 on diesal a week,£200 a month for insurance...then repairs on car..which can be ££££...Now the time has come round for A medical £80..M.O T £100 and a P C O. check which is about £114..And the car needs work done on it!!He has worked hard all his life..now we just cannot afford it anymore...The thing is we have been in touch with pension credits..But they cant help us!!We are making phone calls to see who can help us...But know one is pointing us down the right path..Dont know which way to turn as we have no savings of any kind and still have a mortgage.and bills to pay...If anyone can tell us who we can get in touch with...thank you in advance..Also have never posted on here before

  • Your hubby is 65 so he can retire.

I had the opportunity to take early retirement when I had just turned 60 in 2008, so I wrote out all the costs of staying in work and of taking retirement. It worked out that I'd be about £20 a week worse off by retiring early so the decision was a no-brainer, and it was the best thing I've ever done.

Hubby needs to do the same first and foremost and take things from there.

You've got £143,000 to pay back in 5 years - how on earth were you planning to do that?

Do you have enough equity in the property to downsize to something smaller or in a cheaper area?
  • Yes ...something like that..!!!We have about £70,00 equity..Hmmm i know...mite go out and shoot myself now....
