interesting to see how the call checker works out tomorrow. Heinz are you on the case?
    Links already updated.

The MSE Callcheckers do an automatic trawl of the websites overnight and grab 'per minute' cost information. Connection charges are mentioned in the footnotes but cannot be taken into account in the main results displays.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Please note: from the 16th of January calls within the UK via 18185 are subjected to a 5p connection fee.

Unusual wording (I can't remember what they used last time) but it almost sounds as if the connection charge will be 5p only for UK calls and remain at 4p for international calls..

Yup, I got the same email today.

I've noticed a lot of echo just recently on 1899 calls and now they put the price up to boot! Maybe we're paying extra for the echo?

Some bundled package somewhere, here I come!
I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!
  • Rather sneaky way of announcing it. They send out E- Mail to some customers, disguised as a price cut to certain destinations. Then they give about 8 hours notice of the price increase.

It's the way they've announced every price rise since they started! Funny thing I use 1899 & 18185, but have only had an email about 18185

Have you changed your email address since registering?

The muppets sent the emails to my OLD email account, despite me currently receiving monthly bills from them to my NEW email account.

EDIT ie I have provided up-to-date contact details via their web interface but their computer system seems to have buried deep inside itself an obsolete email address I used during initial registration.
  • The 18185 site has been updated here http://www.18185.co.uk/rates.php

It now says their are 2 different connection fees. 4p for intl calls and 5p for UK Calls. It also now calls the connection fee a start up fee on other pages.

    "18185.co.uk rates for 16-01-2007

Rates are in pence per minute. Calls are billed per minute rounded to the nearest penny, include 17,5% VAT and are subject to change. Calls are subject to a 4p connection fee or 5p for calls within the UK. "
