Just wait until the Olympics next year. All those gold, silver and bronze medals :D
  • Hamish,

Two questions, why are you gloating over the fall in precious metals? Is this not the same as say gloating about the possibility of say a house price crash?

Both positions involve wishing people who hold a different position to your own to materially lose out. I can't see too much of a difference. Perhaps that is just me though.

How do you make a small fortune? Start out with a large fortune and 'invest' it in a [STRIKE]precious metals [/STRIKE] housing market speculative bubble. :)

It's not just gold and silver Hamish, although I understand why you wish to highlight them.

Every single metal has dropped in value quite considerably.

As has oil. As have food commodities. As have textiles. As have shares. As have pensions.

People are turning to cash, because they fear a recession ahead, where cash is seen as king.

Houses will never drop 11% over a couple of days....solely because people live in them and have them as homes and investors cannot dump houses within seconds by the click of a mouse and pull their cash out. They are illiquid, therefore you stand FAR more chance of getting burnt due to being stuck with it. You are comparing apples with oranges on your crusade to somehow prove your invesment decisions correct.

What was the saying, it was true store of wealth?

Well that myth is now busted as with everything that is going on it should be rising.

    Yep. That's the myth.

    It certainly is.:D

It shouldn't be doing anything. There are no hard and fast rules. If commodities and stocks should do something in reaction to a situation we'd all be loaded as we'd simply be able to take advantage of every situation knowing precisely whats going to happen.

As for your message about what it should do, please do some research.

Change the graph to 5 years and you will see gold fell between 2008 and 2009, proving your theory completely and utterly wrong. Same happened to silver.

People are pulling money out of gold (and lots of other commodities) as they are holding cash.
