Bought a new Car, have the V5, but no signature from previous owner

  • I love it how something so trivial can grow legs and people start questioning the dealer, the legitimacy of the car etc etc..

OP, save yourself the effort of even listening to this rubbish. Yes it should have been the dealer who completed it, but it really makes no odds. Fill it in yourself, put a random squiggle in the signature box and send it to the DVLA, job done.
  • Thanks for the replies.

It was HPI checked, I have a copy.

I didn't part ex, I have been without a car for nearly 2 years.

I don't think I'll bother going back to the garage though, and just send it off.

I'm a bit annoyed with myself though that I didn't pick up on it, but it's been so long since I bought a car, I was excited to have a new car and I can remember sending one off in the past (which must have been when i SOLD my last car) that I didn't query it, and thought that they had been doing it long enough to know what they were doing.

If you send it yourself, at least you will know it is done. My dealer didn't. My road fund license expires at the end of this month and I cannot tax the car without a V5.

This - either that or send the green slip with the relevant form to apply for a V5 - the outcome is the same

to wiich you should have the green slip and can tax your car with that if hasnt been used to tax it already, you should send off the green slip with a application form from the post office for a new v5c keepers suppliment it wont cost you a fee.
