I paid for the trip yesterday as I was already getting hounded. I thought its ok I have plenty of time to save up. This is the only time I have not really been able to afford it, the money came out of xmas savings. The teacher openly admitted that the form will not say 'voluntary' because then no one would pay it. It makes me laugh as the place they are going to costs £2 to get in, and they have a workshop for another £2.
Just wanted to add too, that I have always paid for school trips, and the other stuff the schools want for both of my children. For some reason I feel like I have to put that out there0 -
Most schools now opperate a cash-less (at least in the dinner line) system so no one needs know you're entitled to FSM. Neither do you have to take up the offer of FSM. However if you let the school know you're entitled to FSM the school gets more money.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Reading all the arguements with the parents whos kids are enttiled to free school meals, "Who can't afford to pay for school trips" or its "Hard in a large family"
If you can't afford kids why have them. Most clinics give free condoms so theres no excuse!0 -
Oh grow up, why do some of you make this out to be a war between the haves and have nots?
You are assuming l have more money than l know what to do with, isn't this a moneysaving board? so why am l here? deary me.
This is nothing to do with how much money people have - except that for some inexplicable reason you appear to feel you have a right to that information!
Perhaps all parents annual income and the sources should be posted on the school board? Would that satisfy you're voyeurism - because that's all it is, you have no need to know and you do not benefit from knowing, you just want to know.
FYI DS2 gets FSM and I don't have a problem with people knowing that, but we do have a right to privacy and I would be justifiably annoyed if I did care - as a lot of people undoubtedly do.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Clinic don't offer crystal balls though do they ...
I don't understand why people have large families but one or two children with someone you've known for years and think you will be with for the rest of your life, what's wrong with that? Nobody knows if their child will be disabled and therefore not be able to cope in childcare, or if their OH will decide to leave.52% tight0 -

I'm so sorry, I didn't know I would fall on hard times when I had my first child 9 years ago. What a bad mother and wife I am. YOU could have warned me this would happen.
I can afford it if they gave me longer to pay for the trip. It is not for 4 months yet. Plus the £7.50 would have come in handy for the extra food I need for half term.0 -

Yawn. Many of us who's children have been entitled to free school meals are entitled as a result of circumstance that was unpredictable. My children were entitled because my ex ran off with his book keeper and denied us any financial support whatsoever whilst I was a stay at home mum. Took me a while to get back on my feet. As a lone parent, I will hold my hands up and say no, I cannot afford the 3 beautiful children that I have. But when I had them, I could afford them and I could not have ever anticipated the mess that my ex would have left me in. Even now, over 3 years later, I am still waiting for him to pay maintenance - gets away with it with the CSA because he's self employed.
No doubt you will says it's my fault for having married such a person. I can assure you, however, that when I married him, he was a man who would have walked over hot coals for his family. Sadly, when 'new' partners come onto the scene, previous commitments are not always honoured - children being top of the list for being ignored.
Your comment displays considerable ignorance of unavoidable circumstances that many of us find ourselves in. Divorce, illness, accidents etc. can render the richest and most stable of families suddenly dependent on the state. I sincerely hope it never happens to you.0
