Airline has cancelled flight but refuses me a refund

I have booked a flight for 28th October but then heard a rumour that the airline had closed that route from 7th October. They hadn't informed me so I rang and they confirmed all flights after 7 October had been cancelled.
Fine, these things happen. Unprofitable route I suppose, but I assumed I'd at least get my money back.
But oh no. I was given two options, re-book for before 7 October (not an option for me) or be given a credit that can be used against another flight with them within 12 months but only from the same departure airport, which happens to be Kiev in Ukraine!
They refused to give me an actual refund.
My question is, are they allowed to do this? It would seem logical to me that if a supplier fails to deliver a service or offer a viable alternative then a full refund is in order.
The only problem I can see may be jurisdictions. The airline is the Ukrainian subsidiary of a Hungarian one.
But I booked the flight in the UK with a UK credit card (£67 for a return flight).
Should I be talking to the credit card company?
Tnx

Yes, tell the credit card company they have refused to refund you for a cancelled contract, cancelled by them without reason.
Ask for a charge back and let the Airline do the chasing.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
You cannot make a s. 75 claim as the amount is too low. However you may be able to do a chargeback through the credit card providers own scheme.0

I would do a little diffrent.
Call the airline and ask which airline authority governs them, ABTA ACTA etc... (they will assume you are going to make a complaint)
Then state that the agreed contract was not honoured and you want a refund.
if all fails then do the chargeback.
Which airline is it incase others need to check their bookings0
